On August 8, Baojun RC-5/RC-5W was officially launched. It is offered in 13 models with a price range of RMB 59,800 to RMB 112,800. Among them, the sedan version (RC-5) has a total of 7 models with a price range of 59,800-10,9800 yuan (~US$8,581 – US$16,186); the wagon version of RC-5W is available in six variants with a price range of 72800-112,800 yuan. The new car adopts an all-new family-style design language, and the overall shape is sci-fi.
From the appearance point of view, the front faces of the sedan and wagon versions are the same, using the official design language of “interstellar geometry”, which is inspired by the stars. The stary matrix air intake grille combined with breakpoint elements further enhances the recognition of the new car. The headlights on both sides adopt a split design. The top is a long and narrow LED daytime running light. The headlights under the front and the surrounding black decorations are rectangular, which are inspired by some elements in architecture, creating a sense of avant-garde.
Viewed from the side of the body, the straight waistline extends from the front to the rear, visually increasing the length of the body. The sedan version uses a shape similar to a fastback, which looks to add a sense of movement. The wagon version uses a hidden B/C/D pillar design to create a floating roof effect. In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the sedan version are 4650/1806/1458 (1466/1482) mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2700mm. The length, width and height of the travel version are 4685/1806/1465 (1470/1485) mm, and the wheelbase is 2700mm. In contrast, the wagon version has a length of 35mm longer and 7mm higher.
From the rear perspective, the rear design of both is quite different, but the style still follows the concept of simplicity and modernity. Both versions use a bar-type taillight, a recessed tail compartment cover and a hidden exhaust design. In terms of rims, the new car adopts different rim shapes according to different configurations. Among them, the five-spoke wheel is more sporty.
In terms of interior, the center console of Baojun RC-5 adopts an enveloping design. The new car interior uses a large number of geometric design elements, including a square 7-inch instrument, a 10.25-inch central control screen, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a polyline design near the gear lever, which visually creates a strong sense of technology. In terms of interior configuration, the new car provides 6-way adjustment of the main driver’s seat, 4-way manual adjustment of the co-pilot seat, luggage compartment lighting, OTA online upgrade system, mobile phone App remote control of the vehicle, and front and rear power windows, Electric air conditioning, PM2.5 filtration system in the car, etc.
In terms of power, the new car is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine of LAR and a 1.5T turbocharged engine of LJO. The maximum power is 99 horsepower and 147 horsepower, and the peak torque is 143 Nm and 250 Nm. The traditional system is matched with a 6-speed manual transmission and a simulated 8-speed CVT gearbox. The comprehensive fuel consumption is 6.2L/100km. In terms of suspension, the new car adopts MacPherson independent suspension/torsion beam semi-independent suspension.
