SAIC Motor‘s MG brand has officially released the next-generation MG HS, which simultaneously made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS). Available in both gasoline and plug-in hybrid variants, the new model represents a comprehensive upgrade over its predecessor. UK pricing starts at £24,995 for the gasoline model and £31,495 for the plug-in hybrid. The gasoline model is expected to begin deliveries this month, while the plug-in hybrid is scheduled for late September.
Exterior Design: A Bold and Athletic Stance
The new MG HS features a significantly revised front fascia, adopting the latest large grille design in line with the brand’s family style. The lower bumper and fog light area also feature air intakes that enhance its sporty character. The headlights are sleeker and more elongated, with the daytime running lights and chrome accents cleverly integrated to create a sharp and aggressive front end.
Side Profile: Sporty Lines and Accents
The side profile maintains the sporty theme, with a silver accent line extending from the A-pillar towards the roof. The five-spoke alloy wheels add a dynamic touch, while another accent line runs from the front fenders to the front doors. The rear end follows a clean and sporty approach, featuring a bar-type tail light for a striking visual effect. The rear bumper incorporates a dual exhaust system with twin outlets and a silver underbody diffuser.
Color Options and Dimensions
The new MG HS is available in five exterior colors: White Pearl, Black Pearl, Sterling Silver Metallic, Hampstead Grey Metallic, and Dynamic Red Tri-coat. In terms of dimensions, the new HS is 26mm longer and 14mm wider than its predecessor, reaching 1890mm in width. The wheelbase has also been extended by 30mm to 2750mm.
Interior: Technology and Comfort
The interior offers SE and Trophy variants in overseas markets. The SE version comes standard with dual 12.3-inch screens, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging and a 360-degree panoramic camera are also included. Other features include fog lights, power-adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, 6-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat, and an 8-speaker sound system. The cargo area has been increased by 44 liters to 507 liters.
Powertrains: Performance and Efficiency
The gasoline-powered version of the new MG HS retains the 1.5T engine, but with a slight power boost compared to the previous model. It now produces 170 horsepower and 275 N.m of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9.4 seconds. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The plug-in hybrid variant features a hybrid system combining a 1.5T engine and an electric motor. The engine delivers 144 horsepower, while the electric motor produces 209 horsepower. The 24.7 kWh battery pack provides a pure electric range of 121 km, and the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 6.8 seconds.
