As a new product of the Leapmotor LEAP 3.0 architecture, the Leapmotor C16 is a 6-seat medium-to-large SUV. The extended-range version has a comprehensive range of over 1000km, and the battery powered version is equipped with 800V technology. In addition, it is also equipped with Qualcomm 8295 SoC, lidar, and rear-seat entertainment screens. According to the plan, the Leapmotor C16 will start delivery in July (about 2,000 units) and will be delivered in batches in August (more than 5,000 units) in the Chinese market.
Review of the new car
In terms of appearance, the Leapmotor C16 continues the overall family-style design. The bar-type headlights, fake grille, and the shape of the surround are all the same as the Leapmotor C10.
Coming to the side, although the Leapmotor C16 is an SUV, its slim body and the use of a large number of horizontal lines also make it look like an MPV. Its length, width and height are 4915/1905/1770mm, and the wheelbase is 2825mm. It also provides 21-inch wheels. The rear of the car is also in a family-style design, the bar-type taillights are very familiar, and the extended-range version uses a hidden exhaust design, which is not much different from the pure electric version.
Stepping into the car
The overall interior of the new car is mainly simple, and it provides three color schemes. The car is equipped with a 14.6-inch central control screen + 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel. The central control screen is built-in with Qualcomm 8295 chip set, which will provide 360-degree panoramic images and natural voice assistants. In addition, the new car is also equipped with FACE ID face recognition. In addition, the new car will also be equipped with a 15.6-inch rear entertainment screen, a 21-speaker audio system, and wireless fast charging.
The Leapmotor C16 will use a 2+2+2 seat layout, and its seats are also wrapped in organic silicon material, which is very friendly for family use. In terms of configuration, the first and second rows of seats support electric adjustment, heating and ventilation functions. The rear of the front passenger seat is equipped with a small table board, and the second and third rows of seats support one-key mode adjustment. In addition, it is also equipped with three-zone independent air conditioning, electric sunshades, and intelligent voice four-zone positioning, etc.
Intelligent driving
The Leapmotor C16 is equipped with OrinX chips + lidar, and the whole car has 30 perception hardware, which theoretically can achieve L3-level driving assistance capabilities. At present, it can still realize ALC automatic lane change assistance, TJA traffic congestion assistance, ATC adaptive corner cruise, NAC navigation assisted cruise, and NAP high-speed intelligent navigation assisted driving, etc.
Power
The new car is available in battery-powered and extended-range versions. The battery powered version has a maximum motor power of 215kW and is equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries and 800V technology. It can be charged from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes and has a cruising range of 520km. The battery powered version has a maximum power of 215kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.37 seconds. The extended-range version is equipped with a 95-horsepower 1.5L four-cylinder extended-range engine and a maximum motor power of 170kW. The pure electric cruising range is 200km, the fuel consumption when the battery is depleted is 5.4L/100km, and the CLTC comprehensive cruising range is 1095km.
Competitors
Within the price range of the Leapmotor C16, the benchmark product is the BYD TANG. As a latecomer, the Leapmotor C16 has a significant advantage in configuration. The next step is to see how to establish brand influence step by step. In addition, there is another strong dark horse product in the same class – the Dongfeng eπ008. Although its price is slightly more expensive, it has a larger space and cruising range. The Leapmotor C16 wins in terms of 800V technology and lidar. How to choose depends on your preferences. Editor’s Comment
In today’s market environment where many car companies are accustomed to using phrases like “industry first” and “far ahead”, Leapmotor is surprisingly rational. After introducing the Leapmotor C16 in relatively plain language, its price was officially unveiled. We can see that they continue to adhere to the brand concept of “choose a car and see Leapmotor, value is a reference”, once again maximizing the cost-effectiveness of the Leapmotor C16.
