NIO Alps First Model to Start Trial Production in July, Expected to be Launched in October

According to a report by 36kr on 5th Feb., citing multiple sources, NIO‘s sub-brand Alps first model, codenamed “DOM”, is scheduled to start trial production in July this year and is expected to be mass-produced and delivered in the second half of the year.

Trial Production and SOP

About three months after trial production, the vehicle will enter the SOP (Start of Production) phase and can be delivered to users. If all goes well, the DOM is expected to be officially launched in October this year.

Delivery Target

Sources say that despite the short delivery window for the DOM, NIO has set an aggressive delivery target of tens of thousands of units this year.

Previous Reports

As previously reported, at the 2023 Q3 earnings call held in December last year, NIO Chairman Li Bin said that the second brand Alps first car had completed the VB car (Verification Build development verification prototype) trial production. He believes: “This is the best VB car in our history, and we are very confident in the competitiveness of this car.” In terms of sales, NIO will not share stores with Alpine, but will share some of the service network.

NIO’s President Qin Lihong

NIO’s President Qin Lihong has also previously stated that “Alps” and “Firefly” are both internal project codenames for NIO and not brand names. “Alps” mainly mainly targets the mid-range market, and its direct competitors are products from brands such as Tesla, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
