SAIC Volkswagen officially debuted the ID.ERA 5X at the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show, marking a significant milestone for the brand’s electrification strategy. The new model is scheduled to hit the market in November.

The ID.ERA 5X holds the distinction of being the world’s first mass-produced Volkswagen vehicle built on the new CMP platform and featuring the advanced CEA electronic and electrical architecture.

In terms of design, the vehicle retains the signature ID.ERA family aesthetic. The front fascia features a continuous daytime running light strip with the Volkswagen logo centered, flanked by lower-mounted headlight clusters. The side profile adopts a sporty, slightly sloping roofline, complemented by a rear spoiler. The rear design remains minimalist, highlighted by a full-width taillight assembly that emphasizes a compact and athletic stance.

Technologically, the ID.ERA 5X is equipped with a LiDAR sensor to support the new “Xingyun Zhixing” intelligent driving assistance system, enabling end-to-end urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) capabilities. Inside, it continues the “Yunqi” intelligent cockpit experience, designed to offer more intuitive and efficient human-machine interaction.

The vehicle measures 4,560 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm. It will be available with 17, 18, or 19-inch wheel options. Additional customization options include various rear bumper designs, side window trims, a panoramic sunroof, and roof rails. Powering the ID.ERA 5X is a pure electric powertrain delivering a peak output of 155 kW, paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack from CATL.
