The 2026 Chengdu Motor Show kicked off on August 21, serving as the stage for the official debut of the third-generation BYD Tang. This all-new midsize SUV is set to join the existing “Da Tang” (Grand Tang) model to form a dual-vehicle product matrix, with a market launch scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

In terms of design, the new Tang draws significant inspiration from the Da Tang’s aesthetic. It features a closed-off front grille flanked by upswept headlights, connected by a central chrome trim strip that gives the front fascia a sophisticated and modern appearance. For driver assistance, the vehicle is equipped with BYD’s “Eye of the Gods” (Tianshen Zhiyan) advanced driving system. It includes a LiDAR sensor, enabling features such as urban navigation assist, high-speed pilot assist, and automated parking. The system supports complex maneuvers including traffic light recognition, autonomous lane changing, pedestrian yielding, and ETC toll collection.

The rear profile is defined by a full-width taillight assembly with the BYD logo integrated in the center, complemented by a prominent roof spoiler that adds visual depth. The new Tang measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. These dimensions are largely consistent with the Tang L, though the body width and track width are slightly more compact.

Inside, the cabin adopts a fresh design language featuring an integrated screen layout. A slim, full-LCD display is positioned above the main center console screen, providing essential information such as multimedia, weather, vehicle leveling, and gear status. Additional interior amenities include wireless smartphone charging and physical control buttons for improved ergonomics.

Under the hood, the initial filing reveals a single-motor configuration featuring the TZ205QYD drive motor, which delivers a maximum output of 300 kW (approx. 402 hp) and a top speed of 250 km/h. According to the latest vehicle purchase tax exemption catalog, the model will offer two battery pack options: 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh, providing CLTC-rated ranges of 730 km, 830 km, and 850 km. Furthermore, the vehicle is expected to feature the Yunlian-A intelligent air body control system, which includes dual-chamber air suspension and intelligent road surface preview technology to ensure rapid response to changing road conditions.
