Among Chery New Energy’s models, the Chery Little Ant (eQ1), a small EV born on the LFS pure electric platform, has won the favor of many consumers with its stylish appearance, balanced product power and flexible and practical space of 2/4 seats. Today, Chery New Energy has created a pure electric mid-sized SUV, Chery Ant, to meet the needs of users in higher travel scenarios.

Although the name is also called Ant, it is fundamentally different from the previous Little Ant. Based on Chery’s green smart modularization @LIFE platform, Chery Ant is the first to create an all-aluminum frame body. In addition to lightweight, intelligent networking, modularity and electrification are also the core highlights of Ant.

Chery Ant has been officially listed. The new car is positioned as a pure electric mid-size SUV. It is offered by four variants. price ranges from 149,800 to 189,800 yuan (~US$22,110 – US$28,014) after subsidy. The NEDC range of all models is 510km. In addition, in terms of driving assistance configuration, Chery Ant also has functions such as active braking, lane-keeping, adaptive cruise, and automatic parking.

Chery Ant is a blockbuster model of Chery New Energy in 2020. The car is based on the @LIFE all-aluminum pure electric platform, which is also the first model under the platform. At present, Chery New Energy eQ1 has a good market performance, but eQ1 seems to have been unable to satisfy the brand’s ambition to continue to develop upwards. This gave birth to the @LIFE platform with higher gold content and more advanced technology, and Chery Ant is responsible for the brand to go upmarket.

With the launch of the new car, let’s briefly review the general performance of Chery Ant. Its appearance is bold and avant-garde and is designed by Pininfarina. Compared with the previous models of the brand, this is more like a product from the new century. Split headlights are currently a popular design element, and their proportions are in harmony with the overall visual effect of the front of the car, and the air intake decorations surrounding the two sides of the lower bumper further enhance the aggressiveness of the front face. What’s interesting is that many design details of the car are worth pondering. For example, the enclosed grille is engraved with a wind power windmill pattern, which also demonstrates the environmental protection concept of a pure electric car.

The length, width and height of the Chery Ant are 4630/1910/1655mm, and the wheelbase is 2830mm. It can be seen from the side of the car that the length of the front and rear overhangs of the new car is shorter, thus maximizing the riding space. In the styling part, the side of the car is full of tough lines, and the multi-curved design and the uplift of the rear wheel arches also create the strength that an SUV should have.

Entering the car, the first feeling it gives people is that the sense of power is not as strong as the appearance, but the lines of the center console similar to the flying wing still give passengers a sense of space. The technique of multi-material splicing enhances the sense of refinement in the car. A large number of wood grain decorations are in line with the aesthetics of family users, and there is no lack of a sense of grade. In terms of configuration, the car has features such as “millisecond-level” response Face ID, iFLYTEK intelligent voice recognition, mobile phone remote control, and a 220V exclusive inverter outside the car.

For the power part, Chery Ant adopts a rear-mounted rear-drive layout, equipped with a motor with a maximum power of 130kW (178Ps) and a peak torque of 280N·m. In the range part, it is equipped with a ternary lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 70.1kWh, and the NEDC has a range of 510km. According to the plan, the car will also provide a longer-range version in the future, and a four-wheel-drive version will be added.
