On August 6th, we learned from the HIMA, Harmony lntelligent Mobility Alliance (a sub brand of Huawei) that the all-new mid-to-large sedan, STELATO S9 (Chinese “享界” or Xiangjie), has been officially launched. A total of two models have been introduced, with prices ranging from 399,800 to 449,800 yuan (~US$55,700 – US$62,700). With the launch of this EV, it will compete with similarly priced models from brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW. STELATO S9 is jointly developed by HIMA and BAIC, forming a “double flagship” together with AITO M9. HIMA provides full-cycle empowerment in terms of cutting-edge technology, comprehensive safety, and deep integration, while BAIC Group contributes high-end manufacturing, luxury manufacturing processes, a luxurious quality control system, and a leading smart factory.
In terms of appearance, STELATO S9 is a joint creation by Huawei and BAIC, drawing inspiration from the vast universe. Specifically, the new car adopts a rather minimalist design language, featuring C-shaped headlights combined with a bar-type running light. The iconic Star River headlights utilize a dazzling diamond-like process, giving the vehicle a high degree of recognizability while enhancing its technological feel. The new car boasts a drag coefficient of 0.193, lower than that of traditional luxury vehicles.
Moving on to the side profile, as a coupe, the new car boasts a sleek roofline and minimalist body lines, resulting in a visually appealing overall appearance. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 5160mm in length, 1987mm in width, and 1486mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3050mm, positioning it as a mid-to-large sedan. The new car comes equipped with intelligent electronic exterior mirrors that can be dynamically adjusted for reverse, turning, and high-speed driving, offering twice the field of view compared to traditional mirrors and reducing the blind spot by 60%. Additionally, the car features frameless doors and is available with 20-inch or 21-inch wheels.
At the rear, the new car adopts the currently popular bar-type taillight design, the trunk lid features a small ducktail-like design, creating a rich sense of layering. Meanwhile, the lower bumper avoids an exaggerated diffuser design. In terms of hardware configuration, STELATO S9 is equipped with a 192-line LiDAR with a maximum detection range of 250 meters, 3 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, 7 high-perception cameras, and 4 panoramic cameras.
In terms of interior design, the center console is adorned with rich horizontal lines, complemented by a three-spoke, unconventional steering wheel, a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, and a 15.6-inch centrally suspended control screen. This design aligns with the current mainstream aesthetics of new energy vehicles. Additionally, the area below the central control screen is equipped with a wireless charging pad with cooling functionality, enhancing the overall user experience. Notably, there’s a MagLink interface behind the front seats for connecting external tablets. It’s understood that the Xiangjie S9 is equipped with the new HarmonyOS 4 system, further upgrading the intelligent cockpit. In terms of intelligent driving, the S9 will be upgraded to ADS 3.0 (while the Wenjie M9 has ADS 2.0), adopting an end-to-end new architecture. This upgrade brings significant improvements to intelligent driving, intelligent parking, and active safety capabilities.
In terms of powertrain, the new car offers both single-motor and dual-motor versions. The single-motor variant has a maximum power output of 227 kilowatts, while the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version delivers a combined maximum power of 385 kilowatts and a peak torque of 673 Nm. The official 0-100 km/h acceleration times for these two versions are 6.05 seconds and 3.9 seconds, respectively. The battery is a 100 kWh ternary lithium battery, with an average energy consumption of 13.2 kWh/100 km. The driving range is 816 kilometers and 721 kilometers, respectively. The entire vehicle series adopts Huawei’s 800V Giant Whale architecture, and the manufacturer claims that the battery can be charged to add 200 kilometers of range in just 5 minutes.
The new car is equipped with a “TULING” chassis, featuring a front double-wishbone independent suspension and a rear five-link suspension. Air suspension and CDC variable damping shock absorbers are standard across all models. The vehicle also features ADC adaptive damping control for intelligent damping adjustment. Additionally, it includes a motion sickness relief mode that utilizes intelligent torque control. The maximum wading depth is 430mm.
