On April 22, the first mass-produced pure electric SUV ARCFOX α-T under the premium brand ARCFOX from BAIC BJEV officially opened its pre-sale, with a pre-sale price starting from 280,000 yuan. ARCFOX α-T not only has a 653km range and α-Pilot intelligent driving system but also carries the MH5000 T-BOX based on Huawei‘s new generation 5G chip, officially known as “5G smart electric vehicle”. Previously, Huawei launched a serious of equipment related to vehicles such as Huawei HiCar in-car system, Huawei HiCharger charging pile for EV.
In 2019, Huawei launched the MH5000, the first 5G communication hardware for the automotive industry. This module was developed based on the Balong 5000 5G chip independently developed by Huawei. Huawei claims that the MH5000 is the industry’s first 5G-V2X (can be simply understood as “Internet of Vehicles based on 5G communication”) vehicle module, it is the latest 5G baseband of Huawei HiSilicon and supports NSA and SA networking. According to official test data, the maximum downlink peak rate of the MH5000 is 2Gbps, and the maximum uplink peak rate is 230Mbps, which can meet the 5G communication needs of automobiles and provide assistance for vehicle data communication, vehicle-road collaboration, and future autonomous driving.
At present, the α-Pilot intelligent driving system carried by ARCFOX α-T is actually still at the L2 level ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance) level, which can realize the functions of the automatic following, lane-keeping, autonomous obstacle avoidance, and collision avoidance. Although ARCFOX α-T does not yet have L3-level autonomous driving capabilities, the official believes that with the 5G basic capabilities of the car, it will be possible to “unlock” the L3 faster and easier in the future.
As early as April 2019, BAIC BJEV announced that it will cooperate with Huawei to jointly develop ARCFOX brand cars. Xu Heyi, chairman of BAIC Group, also values the cooperation between the two parties. He once said, “Our high-end smart new energy vehicle brand ARCFOX, the control system is basically Huawei. I believe that with the successive launch of Huawei’s automotive products, including car-grade chips, Huawei will soon become China’s Bosch. “
