Changan‘s sub-brand Deepal introduced its latest compact SUV, the Deepal S05, on October 20th. The S05 is available in both extended-range and pure electric configurations, with a starting price of 119,900 Yuan and a top-end price of 149,900 Yuan.

At the launch event, officials announced that Deepal’s super extended-range technology will continue to evolve. The third-generation engineering prototype has already rolled off the production line. The next-generation Yuanli Ultra Drive system boasts an average operating efficiency of 94%, while the next-generation Yuanli Intelligent Extended-Range system achieves a maximum thermal efficiency of 47.03%. The next-generation Jin Zhong Zhao battery supports a 5C charging rate, charging from 30% to 80% in less than or equal to 8 minutes, and a 7C charging rate, charging from 30% to 80% in less than or equal to 5 minutes. Additionally, Deep Blue will be equipped with a high-level intelligent driving system in 2025. In terms of overseas expansion, Deep Blue will develop more global models and aims to cover major countries and regions worldwide by 2025. Deepal S05 will begin production at the Thai factory in early 2025.

The exterior design of Deepal S05 is characterized by its clean lines and minimalist approach, while retaining key elements of the family’s design language. The vehicle’s most distinctive feature is its DLP headlights, powered by HUAWEI XPIXEL technology. With a resolution of 130 megapixels and a projection area of 120 inches, these headlights can project a variety of images onto the ground or a wall, including pedestrian warnings, lane guidance, videos, and even the content from the vehicle’s central control screen. This innovative feature transforms the S05 into a versatile multimedia platform, allowing users to enjoy outdoor entertainment experiences such as karaoke, movies, and gaming. To complement the headlights, the S05 also includes two 25-watt external speakers and six lighting assist functions.

Deepal S05 exhibits a sporty and dynamic side profile, featuring clean lines and a flowing silhouette. Black accents on the windows and lower body contribute to the vehicle’s sporty character. The rear spoiler further enhances the sleek appearance, while the C-pillar-mounted ring-shaped indicator light offers a distinctive and functional design element, providing a visual indication of the battery charge level.

The rear end of the vehicle sports a clean and athletic design, echoing the front. It features a sleek,bar-type taillight and a prominent high-mounted stop lamp. The rear bumper is adorned with black trim, enhancing the vehicle’s sporty character. Dimensionally, the car measures 4620mm long, 1900mm wide, and 1600mm tall, with a wheelbase spanning 2880mm.

The interior features a vibrant dual-tone color scheme, complemented by chrome accents throughout, catering to the aesthetic preferences of younger consumers. The vehicle boasts a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a large sunflower-shaped central display, and hidden air vents. The 15.6-inch sunflower-shaped central touchscreen supports rotation and runs the DEEPAL OS 3.0 system, powered by the 8155 automotive-grade chip. It also comes equipped with a 14-speaker surround sound system, panoramic sunroof, rear air vents, AR-HUD, and wireless charging.

Deepal S05 offers both extended-range and pure electric versions. The extended-range model is equipped with a 1.5L range extender producing 72kW and a 160kW drive motor. It comes with two battery options: 17.08kWh and 27.28kWh, offering pure electric ranges of 100km and 155km respectively. The fuel consumption in extended-range mode is 4.95L/100km and 5.05L/100km, respectively. The pure electric version features a 175kW drive motor and a 56.12kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC-rated range of 510km.
