Hongqi is set to expand its presence in the Russian market with the introduction of the Hongqi Golden Sunflower Guoya, a flagship luxury sedan that will become the most expensive Chinese vehicle ever sold in the country. Reports indicate that the model will be offered with both V6 and V8 hybrid powertrains. Due to significant import tariffs implemented in Russia as of January 2025, the vehicle is expected to be priced nearly double its domestic Chinese market value, with top-tier configurations potentially reaching approximately $445,000 (approx. 3.2 million RUB).

With European luxury brands like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series becoming increasingly difficult to source through official channels due to ongoing sanctions, Hongqi is positioning the Guoya to appeal to affluent Russian business leaders and high-net-worth individuals.

The exterior design remains consistent with the domestic version, featuring a commanding front fascia dominated by a large, chrome-heavy waterfall grille. The vehicle is equipped with high-resolution DLP headlights capable of projecting road information and safety alerts. Measuring 5,353mm in length with a 3,260mm wheelbase, the Guoya exudes a stately presence. Its rear design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese palace architecture, with taillights styled after classic palace lanterns.

Inside, the cabin blends retro aesthetics with modern technology. Highlights include a two-tone steering wheel, an analog quartz clock integrated into the center console, and extensive use of wood trim. Ergonomics are prioritized, with seat controls mounted on the doors for easy access. The rear cabin offers a premium experience with independent seats featuring heating, ventilation, massage, and memory functions. The model is available in both four-seat and five-seat configurations, with the four-seat version featuring a full-length center console.

Under the hood, the Guoya offers two HEV hybrid systems. The 3.0T V6 hybrid powertrain delivers 280 kW (381 hp) and 570 Nm of torque, while the 4.0T V8 hybrid system produces 350 kW (476 hp) and 680 Nm of torque. Both systems are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The V6 variant achieves a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.8 seconds, while the V8 version hits the mark in 4.3 seconds. It remains to be seen if any technical adjustments will be made to accommodate Russia’s specific climate conditions.

Pricing is estimated at 27.7 million RUB (approx. $389,000) for the 3.0T V6 model and 31.7 million RUB (approx. $445,000) for the 4.0T V8 model. Whether the Guoya can successfully capture the market share previously held by European luxury sedans remains a key point of interest for the industry.
