Hardcore off-road enthusiasts, take note: FAW Hongqi has officially named its first rugged off-roader the “Hongqi G919.” According to the manufacturer, the name carries significant symbolism: “G” represents the backbone of a national vehicle, “9” signifies its flagship status, “1” denotes top-tier performance, and the final “9” reflects a commitment to long-term, comprehensive service.

The Hongqi G919, which made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show, features a signature “boxy” silhouette combined with a distinct Chinese luxury design language. It stays true to the Hongqi family aesthetic, highlighted by a massive vertical chrome grille paired with retro-styled rectangular full-LED headlights. The muscular hood lines and the upright, boxy body profile create an imposing and authoritative presence. The production model measures 5,135mm in length, 2,050mm in width, and 1,950mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900mm, maintaining its substantial physical footprint.

The G919 comes standard with a comprehensive suite of professional off-road equipment, including high-strength bumpers, dual tow hooks, a heavy-duty roof rack, auxiliary spotlights, a rear-mounted storage box, and all-terrain AT tires, balancing practical utility with a rugged off-road aesthetic. The roof integrates a LiDAR sensor, providing the necessary hardware for advanced intelligent driving systems to ensure precise perception and assisted control in challenging off-road environments.

Under the skin, the vehicle utilizes a body-on-frame chassis paired with an air suspension system. It is powered by a 2.0T range-extender powertrain coupled with a potent quad-motor setup. This configuration delivers a combined output of 620kW and a staggering 1,320 N·m of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.5 seconds. The G919 offers a CLTC pure electric range of 280km and a total combined range of 1,350km. Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with front and rear mechanical differential locks to tackle demanding terrain. The Hongqi G919 is expected to hit the market in the second half of this year.
