On November 15, 2023, the first model of Xiaomi Motors, the Xiaomi SU7, which had been rumored more than two years, finally made debut.
The official stated that the headlights of the new car adopt the shape of the Chinese word “米”, which is also the Xiaomi brand’s Chinese name, and among the current so many narrow-eyed models on the Chinese market, the larger eyes of the Xiaomi SU7 can be said to be “rare and precious”.
From the application information, the design language of the new car is very concise and dynamic, with the logo consistent with Xiaomi’s logo. The English badge “xiaomi” at the rear its identity, and the silver decoration on the rear bumper highlights a sense of power, paired with an active tail wing to highlight the sporty atmosphere. The new car is equipped with two different petal shaped wheels, paired with yellow calipers, giving it a youthful and lively appearance. In terms of body size, its length/width/height are 4997/1963/1440mm, and its wheelbase is 3000mm. In terms of power, the Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with a ternary lithium battery from CATL, with a front and rear motor power of 220kW/275kW. There is also lithium iron phosphate from Findreams, with a motor power of 220kW.
On the side, this new car features a sliding back design, equipped with five spoke wheels, Brembo multi piston brake calipers, semi hidden door handles, etc. It is also reported that the frameless door design will be also featured. However, upon closer observation, the new car has a high degree of similarity to the design of the Porsche Taycan in terms of both the door handles and the position of the front and rear fenders.
The application information shows that the new car is produced by Beijing Automotive Group Off Road Vehicle Co., Ltd., with two versions: Max and Pro, and it is expected to differentiate in terms of assisted driving ability.
The designer of the Xiaomi SU7 is Mr. Li Tianyuan, and his representative work is the BMW iX, which also proves that Xiaomi’s new car hopes to make some breakthroughs and a sense of impact. So do you think SU7 has achieved it?
The interior of the new car has not been officially announced yet. Combined with spy photos, it is equipped with a three spoke steering wheel and a red decoration around the driving mode switch button, highlighting a sporty feel. Central control is featured with a large horizontal screen, and other details are not yet known.
Regarding to the price, Is it possible to buy a Xiaomi car for 150,000 yuan?
Given the previous usage of Xiaomi phones, many consumers expect Xiaomi cars to also have an astonishing price. But the Xiaomi SU7 is a sedan with a length of nearly 5 meters and a wheelbase of 3 meters, and the rumored power combination of 100kWh battery and 800V charging, it is difficult to sell at 150,000 yuan level. Looking at the current price of EV with 800V charging alone, Xpeng and IM are currently the most competitive players, and the entry model for G6 and LS6 are around 200,000 yuan. Based on the overall quality and trim-level of the vehicle, the main selling model of Xiaomi SU7 will be around 300,000 yuan.
But it is not ruled out that Xiaomi will have cheaper models in the future. Referring to the general naming convention of car models, the number “7” is generally considered a mid to high-end model in family products, and there should be lower priced products in the future.
