Recently, SAIC MAXUS has officially launched the Star X pickup, a brand-new pickup truck equipped with the latest SAIC π Plus engine. Additionally, an EV version has been introduced. The gasoline version is available in four variants, with a price range of 155,800 to 209,800 yuan. The EV version comes in two variants, priced between 299,800 and 322,800 yuan.

In terms of exterior design, MAXUS Star X gasoline version further evolves the design philosophy of the SAIC MAXUS pickup truck family. The entire front end is covered by a wide grille, giving it a more imposing appearance. Additionally, the headlights on both sides are also quite large and seamlessly integrate with the front grille, further enhancing the vehicle’s commanding presence.

With uniform dimensions of 5500×2005×1860mm (length, width, and height) and a 3300mm wheelbase across all models, the new vehicle mirrors the size of the GWM PAO pickup, a popular choice in China’s large pickup truck segment. The absence of long and short wheelbase variants provides a consistent footprint. An optional two-step tailgate further enhances convenience for loading and unloading cargo.

The EV version is the eTerron 9, which made its world debut at the Hannover Motor Show. Built on the Star GST platform, it is a pure electric four-wheel drive pickup truck featuring a fully enclosed front end and a continuous headlight strip. Additionally, it boasts a spacious front trunk. The vehicle’s dimensions are 5500 (5630) / 2005 / 1860 (1874) mm (length, width, and height), with a wheelbase of 3300 mm.

The interior of the Star X adopts the minimalist design that is becoming increasingly popular in the pickup truck segment. It features dual 12.3-inch screens and is equipped with the Tencent TAI 4.0 system, placing it at the forefront of its class in terms of intelligent in-vehicle systems. Additionally, the build quality and materials are top-notch, with extensive use of soft-touch materials and suede headlining on select models, elevating the interior to a level comparable to more premium SUVs.

The Star X boasts a cargo bed measuring 1561×1610/1510(with molded cargo box)x535mm, offering a 1200L capacity. A unique feature is its ability to connect the cargo bed to the passenger cabin, resulting in a spacious combined area of 2600mm×1600mm. This versatile design caters to various needs, from hauling cargo to setting up a campsite.

The Star X packs a powerful punch. Its heart is the SAIC π Plus, a cutting-edge 2.5T diesel engine that delivers 165 kW of maximum power and 520 Nm of peak torque. Mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, this combination ensures a dynamic driving experience. The new engine excels in low-end torque and exhibits reduced vibration and noise levels.

The four-wheel drive system includes all-terrain mode and front and rear differential locks. Additionally, it features a transparent chassis and an off-road expert mode, demonstrating its impressive off-road capabilities. The front suspension is a double-wishbone type, while the rear suspension offers two options: a leaf spring non-independent suspension and a multi-link independent suspension. The latter significantly improves ride comfort. Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with trailer assist (for towing caravans), as well as Level 2 driving assistance.
