The WEY V8X, a new mid-to-large SUV, has officially launched in China. The vehicle is available in five configurations, with a starting price of 226,800 yuan ($31,800) after incentives, ranging up to 302,800 yuan ($42,500). It offers both 1.5T and 2.0T plug-in hybrid powertrain options.

**Design and Dimensions**
The V8X adopts a fresh design language, drawing inspiration from the WEY V9X. It features a closed-off front grille, a signature “star-ring” light bar, and integrated headlights that emphasize the vehicle’s width. The SUV also offers a dedicated sport trim. Measuring 5,125 mm in length, 2,025 mm in width, and 1,821 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm, the V8X is slightly more compact than the V9X while maintaining a commanding road presence.

**Interior and Technology**
Inside, the cabin follows modern new-energy vehicle trends. It features a slim digital instrument cluster paired with a large floating central touchscreen and a matching passenger entertainment display. The interior is accented with wood trim and a wraparound cockpit design, enhancing the overall sense of luxury and spatial depth.

**Powertrain and Performance**
The V8X is equipped with the Super Hi4 hybrid system and a 4-speed DHT transmission. The 1.5T version delivers a combined output of 450 kW and 790 Nm of torque, while the 2.0T variant boosts output to 500 kW and 930 Nm. Both plug-in hybrid models offer a CLTC-rated pure electric range of 402 km. A pure electric version is expected to follow, featuring dual motors with 220 kW and 320 kW outputs.

**Market Positioning**
The V8X enters a highly competitive segment, facing off against established rivals like the AITO M7, Voyah FREE, Avatr 07L, and Audi E7X. It also faces pressure from pure electric models such as the ONVO L80, IM LS6, and Luxeed R7.

**Editor’s Take**
In the fiercely contested luxury mid-to-large SUV segment, the WEY V8X carries the strategic weight of elevating the brand. To compete with benchmarks like the AITO M7 and rising challengers from Avatr, Voyah, and Denza, WEY must rely on more than just hardware specs. By leveraging its new family design language and the Guiyuan S platform, the V8X targets family and business users by focusing on emotional value, build quality, and travel style. This strategy represents the core of WEY’s attempt to carve out a stable position in a crowded market, reflecting the new competitive landscape of the luxury SUV segment.
