GAC-Toyota applied to China’s relevant departments to register “Wildlander” (Chinese “威兰达” – Weilanda) trademarks. It is reported that this Chinese and English name will be used for the new compact SUV based on Toyota’s all-new RAV4, which will be introduced and put into production in the future by GAC-Toyota. Taking the precedent models of Corolla/Levin, C-HR/IZOA as reference, we expect that “Wildlander” will only be different in design from the all-new RAV4 from FAW-Toyota that will be launched in October 2019.
The all-new Toyota RAV4 offers two virants on front face outside of China mainland market. According to the official news we obtained, FAW-Toyota’s all-new RAV4 will only offer the regular version, it will not launch the adventure edition. The English name “Wildlander” can form a serialized name with Toyota Highlander (It’s also made by GAC-Toyota in China mainland), so we expect that GAC-Toyota’s “Wildlander” is likely to be the China version of the all-new RAV4 Adventure Edition.
In terms of power, GAC-Toyota’s “Wildlander” or will share two power systems with the all-new RAV4, including 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine + CVT transmission and 2.5-liter hybrid system. The maximum power are 171ps and 218 horsepower respectively, it will be paired with different four-wheel drive systems. We will continue to pay attention to more information about the “Wildlander”.
