We got a preview of all-new Hongqi H7 from FAW-Hongqi. The new car adopts a brand-new design language, and the overall is more square and atmospheric than the current model. It is understood that the car will be put into production in May 2020, powered by the 3rd-gen 4GC20TD engines, of which the higher-powered version has peak torque of 380 N.m, matching DCT400 dual-clutch gearbox, 0-100km/h acceleration time is less than 8 seconds.

This is the appearance of the current Hongqi H7. Since this car mainly serves the China government, it is always mount military license plate on the road. From the design point of view, the current Hongqi H7, which can be described by the word “conservative”, the visual feeling of the front face is relatively stable, and even somewhat old-fashioned. Hongqi, as the national car, an important change is urgently needed.

In 2012, Taylor joined Rolls Royce and led the design of the Wraith, Dawn, Phantom, and the first SUV model Cullinan. He is one of the designers who know best the top luxury cars today. On September 7, 2018, China First Auto Works (FAW) announced that the former Rolls-Royce design director Giles Taylor has officially joined FAW as the vice president of global design and chief creative officer (CCO). Responsible for the styling and design experience of Hongqi brand and the brands of FAW.

From the preview of the all new Hongqi H7, we can see that Giles Taylor, who has unique insights and rich design experience for the ultra-luxury brand, has injected many young elements into the car. The classic standing Hongqi badge has become more minimalist style and has been extended to the grille. Although we can’t see specific shape of the headlights, the futuristic lighting design with strong sense of the future is a bold transcendence for the Hongqi brand.

The rear end of the all new Hongqi H7 uses the fast back design, the designer directly let the lines fall from the roof and meet the short trunk. We may still see some of the design elements of Rolls Royce.

In the taillight section, the car also uses a bar-type design. At the first glance from this image, I feel that it is similar to the Maybach. The design language mainly emphasize the inspiration from the luggage compartment strips of the Tiananmen Tower, which connects the taillight groups arranged vertically on both sides, and the arc along the upper edge of the trunk lid outline the layer.

In terms of power, the latest information shows that the all-new Hongqi H7 will be equipped with 3rd-gen engine codenamed 4GC20TD, of which the higher-powered version of the model has a peak torque of 380 Nm, and the transmission system matches the DCT400 dual-clutch gearbox. The 0-100km/h acceleration time is less than 8 second. In addition, the lower-powered version of the all new Hongqi H7 will also use the same gearbox. We will continue to pay attention to more information about new car.
