On March 12, FAW Hongqi (in Chinese it means “red flag”) E-QM5 was officially launched. The new car was only sold to the online car-hailing market in the past, but will now be officially sold to the individual market. The new car launched a total of 2 models, priced at 122,800-165,800 yuan (~US$19,377 – US$26,163). The new car is a medium-sized pure electric sedan specially designed for rear passengers. Its comprehensive cruising range is 431km.
In terms of appearance, Hongqi E-QM5 does not adopt the family-style design of H9, but boldly adopts a new style design. Although the front face design is controversial, it has formed a unique personality style, and the design similar to the concept car shows a future aesthetic. Split headlights are located on both sides of the front grille, with a unique shape, including a lens, and the Hongqi exclusive LOGO will naturally not be missing.
On the side of the body, the waistline with a strong three-dimensional sense runs through the entire body, and the lines range from soft to rigid. In terms of model size, the length, width and height of the new car are 5040mm/1910mm/1569mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2990mm. The wheelbase size of the new car is quite exaggerated. The new car ensures the rear space as much as possible. The size of the rear door is significantly larger than the front door, and the C-pillar is moved as far back as possible to ensure sufficient space for the rear. The perfect curve solves the aesthetic error caused by the rearward movement of the C-pillar. The new car’s charging port is located on the left front fender.
As for the interior, since the exterior design is bold and full of technology, the interior is also bold and adopts the popular minimalist design style, which is rare in traditional car companies. The new car saves a lot of physical buttons and focuses on the central control screen. The 10.1-inch floating central control screen has more complete functions, including voice recognition and reversing images. The instrument panel is huge in size, but still a traditional mechanical tachometer. There is a big red flag badge on the steering wheel, and the new red flag LOGO is not used. The transmission adopts electronic gears, and the shape is exquisite. The entire center console has a sense of hierarchy and is visually layered through the decorative panels, but the interior materials are relatively general.
In terms of power, the comprehensive cruising range of the new car is 431km, the maximum power of the electric motor is 140kW, the charging version of the model is fast-charged by 20%-80% for about 30 minutes, and the operation time of swapping battery for the battery-swapping version is less than 1.5 minutes. In terms of safety configuration, the new car is also equipped with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking system.
