Recently, the first Chinese V-shaped 12-cylinder direct-injection supercharged (V12TD) engine independently designed by FAW was successfully trial-produced and rolled off the production line in the Trial Production Department of the Vehicle Development Institute of the General Research and Development Institute. The V12TD engine is newly upgraded based on the only Hongqi V12 platform in China, with a maximum power of 762 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1100 Nm. In the future, it will cooperate with the hybrid system to match the vehicle application.

It is reported that the power system is tailor-made for FAW-Hongqi’s top models, and strongly supports the group’s new energy strategy with top flagship power. It expects that flagship models such as the new generation of L5 will be equipped with this V12 hybrid system in the future.

It is worth mentioning that during the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, Hongqi exhibited a super sports car S9, which was designed by Walter de Silva, the former design director of Volkswagen Group. He is still designing other models for Hongqi, including the rumored S7 supercar.

The concept car version of the S9 will be powered by a hybrid system with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and 3 electric motors, with a maximum output of over 1,400 horsepower, an acceleration time from 0-100km/h of 1.9 seconds, and a top speed of over 400km/h. The top-line V12 engine may be used in more similar super sports cars and top family flagship models.
