According to sources, Leapmotor will produce the T03 model at Stellantis’ Tychy plant in Poland, starting as early as the second quarter of 2024. The production will use the semi-knock-down (SKD) technology.
In October 2023, Stellantis Group acquired a 21% stake in Leapmotor for $1.6 billion. As part of the deal, Stellantis Group and Leapmotor will establish a joint venture called “Leapmotor International” with a 51:49 share ratio. Previously, there were reports that Stellantis was planning to use its Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy as Leapmotor’s European production base, with an expected annual output of 150,000 units and a possible start of production in 2026 or 2027.
It is reported that the Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy is currently the production base for Fiat 500e and Maserati cars. Assigning Leapmotor’s production to the Mirafiori plant may help Stellantis achieve its target with the Italian government to increase the group’s production in Italy from 750,000 units last year to 1 million units by 2030. Stellantis currently has four platforms: STLA Small, STLA Medium, TLA Large and STLA Frame.
