Being said that, ternary lithium is commonly used in most of the electric vehicles. While BYD announced the launch of a “blade battery” which is based on the battery which is not widely used, lithium iron phosphate technology. This technology is used in the newly announced BYD Han, a brand-new mid-to-large size EV which is scheduled to be in the market in the middle of 2020.

As per the reports, Tesla is also going to have cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate batteries in their upcoming electric car, model 3. While recently ternary lithium batteries are getting popular, lithium iron phosphate batteries are successfully receiving attention gradually.

While a ternary lithium battery is becoming the first choice of many electric car companies because of its high energy density, anyway, some factors make a high energy density car unstable and concern a certain group of consumers. However, the technical route of lithium iron phosphate batteries shows much more reliable characteristics and known to be safer comparatively.

It is important to learn about the “Blade Battery” which is being introduced. The blade battery is designed and developed by BYD with a 0.6m length battery cell, put together in an array along with adding to battery pack called “blade”.BYD officials say that safety will not be a concern for blade batteries which are based on lithium iron phosphate technology as they are improved greatly and the runaway temperature is way higher compared to the ternary lithium batteries.

It is also worth noting that the battery pack has overall higher rigidity besides being resistant to deformation, puncture, and compression. While the probability of getting any short circuit in the battery pack is almost zero, additionally the blade battery comes with a service life of more than one million km which has improved its practicality.

The BYD Blade batteries are going to be featured with BYD Han EV for the first time, which is planned to be released in the market somewhere in June 2020. Being the first EV equipped with blade battery, range of BYD Han is expected to do more than 605 km (375miles).
