On June 19th, the Jinan Traffic Police issued the “Notice on Lifting the Limitation Measures for Multi-purpose Trucks (Pickup Trucks) and Light and Micro New Energy Trucks on Urban Roads.”
What kind of notice is this?
This notice clearly states that since June 19, 2019, urban road restrictions for multi-purpose trucks (pick trucks) and light-duty trucks with new energy vehicle license plates have been lifted throughout the city. The text description is concise, but some people did not believe it at first, until the next day, the Jinan Municipal People’s Government issued a document confirming the relevant news. Jinan City has also become the first city in the capital city of China to completely lift the ban on pickup trucks.
Does it mean that you can drive a pickup at any time in Jinan?
From this notice, we have interpreted: multi-purpose trucks (pick trucks) and light-duty trucks that has new energy vehicle license plates will not need to apply for vehicle registration or permission in Jinan in the future.
Therefore, the answer is certain. As long as the compliant pickup truck can be driven freely in Jinan City, it has the right to own ordinary cars.
What kind of pickup is considered to be in compliance?
According to the relevant person in charge of the traffic police department of Jinan, the multi-purpose truck (pickup truck) refers to the structure of the long head and the cab, the number of approved passengers is less than or equal to 5 people (including the driver), and the height of the cab is less than or equal to 2100 mm, the distance between the upper level of truck bed (fence) to ground is less than or equal to 1500mm, as well as the maximum design total mass is less than or equal to 3,500 kg.
Although not all pickups are allowed to drive freely in Jinan, the regulations can be said to be very loose, most China brand or even imported pickup trucks can meet this requirement.
In addition to Jinan, what other cities will completely lift the ban of pickup?
So far, only one city in Jinan has completely lifted the restrictions on pickup. However, at the beginning of this year, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other 10 departments have issued the “Implementation Plan for Further Optimizing Supply to Promote Steady Growth in Consumption and Promote the Formation of a Strong Domestic Market (2019)”, which clearly pointed out that it is necessary to steadily promote the relaxation of the restrictions on pickup trucks entering the city.
In China, including Hebei, Liaoning, Henan, Yunnan, Hubei, Xinjiang, six provinces and municipalities, autonomous regions as pilots to lift the ban of pickup. Therefore, after Jinan, cities in these six regions are likely to implement a comprehensive lifting of the pickup truck.
