Hongqi Automobile, China’s iconic luxury automaker, is set to redefine the off-road segment with its inaugural hardcore off-road vehicle. The brand confirmed that the official name of its new off-road series will be unveiled at the 2025 Guangzhou International Motor Show, following its sensational debut at the April 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.
A Strategic Shift into Off-Road Territory
Hongqi’s new model marks a bold departure from its traditional focus on SUVs, sedans, and hybrid/electric vehicles. While the brand has dominated China’s premium sedan market for decades, this marks its first foray into hardcore off-roading—a segment currently dominated by rivals like Great Wall’s TANK series, BAIC’s BJ series, and emerging players such as Chery’s Jetour Zong Heng G700 and BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao. The vehicle, codenamed P567, adopts a non-monocoque chassis and features three locking differentials, a hallmark of serious off-road engineering. Power comes from a self-developed quad-motor system delivering 1,850 N·m of torque and 0-100 km/h acceleration in approximately 4 seconds.

Design Philosophy Rooted in Tradition
The prototype showcases a monolithic, boxy silhouette inspired by traditional Chinese architectural elements, particularly mortise and tenon joints—a nod to Hongqi’s heritage. Key design highlights include:
Front fascia: A seven-vertical-two-horizontal grille with circular LED headlights, blending historical motifs with modern tech.
Rugged details: Blacked-out B/C/D pillars, roof-mounted luggage racks, and optional features like a winch, roof platform, and all-terrain tires.
Retro-modern aesthetic: Military-inspired modifications (e.g., roof-mounted lights, tow hooks) and a camouflage wrap for concept versions.

Performance and Market Positioning
Targeting both professional adventurers and urban elites, the P567 will offer:
- Dual-use versatility: Configurations for off-road adventures, long-distance overlanding, and daily commuting.
- Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system: A 210 km CLTC electric range and 9.5L/100km fuel consumption in hybrid mode .
- Customization: 20+ modification interfaces and five preset off-road modes (mud, sand, snow, etc.).
The vehicle is slated for production in Q1 2026, with Hongqi reallocating 26,000 annual production slots from its existing SUV/Crossover lines to prioritize off-road capacity .
Why This Matters
Hongqi’s entry into the hardcore off-road market signals China’s automakers accelerating global ambitions. By merging traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge EV tech, the brand aims to compete with global giants like Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Land Rover Defender while appealing to patriotic consumers. Analysts note this move aligns with China’s broader strategy to dominate the EV and premium vehicle sectors. Stay tuned for the final name reveal at Guangzhou Auto Show (November 2025) and further details on pricing and global distribution plans.
