Xpeng Motors Launched P5 Electric Sedan in the Chinese Market

Back on September 15th, we learned from officials of Xpeng Motors that Xpeng P5 was officially launched, with a total of 6 different variants. It comes with a subsidized price tag that starts from 157,900 Yuan and goes all the way up to 223,900 yuan. The Xpeng P5 is the third mass-produced model launched by Xpeng Motors. It is positioned as a compact pure electric car. The six different variants of the vehicle are 460G, 460E, 550G, 550E, 550P, and 600P. It has an NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) range of 460 / 550 / 600 KM depending on the variant which you choose. The biggest highlight of the car is that it is equipped with two Lidar sensors, and it can realize the urban NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) function. Earlier, the brand has demonstrated the NGP tech using Xpeng P7 on the highways of China.

Apart from these, Xpeng P5 also uses many new design elements. It adopts the X ROBOT FACE styling concept as a whole, and the X shape on the front face fits the brand LOGO. In terms of front details, the new car uses an active air intake grille. At the same time, a car-grade lidar is placed on the left and right sides of the front surround, which has good concealment. The brand uses these to use the electronic driver-assist features that come under the Xpilot banner.

Dimesnions and Design of Xpeng P5

From the sides of the body, we can see that the Xpeng P5 has a slightly smaller body size than Xpeng P7. That said, it has a length, width, and height of 4808 x 1840 x 1520mm. It also has an ample wheelbase of 2768mm. Further, the body of the P5 is designed with a slip-back shape and a hidden door handle that is hidden inside the body. It also has a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.223. Apart from the front, the design of the rear part looks almost similar to that of its sibling, i.e., of Xpeng P7.

Although it has through-type taillights that are narrow and long. And it also features a slightly tilted spoiler. All these elements match the entire design. The best thing about the vehicle is the smart cockpit which is rich in technology configuration.

Further, in terms of interior, the smart cockpit of Xpeng P5 adopts an enveloping design. That said, it has a full LCD screen with a size of 12.3 inches. It also gets a large 15.6-inch vertical central control screen which creates a good sense of technology. It is also worth mentioning that with the help of this screen. The P5 also comes with an interactive cockpit based on the Xmart OS 3.0 system. This is the first time a vehicle from the brand gets the same. The car is now faster, smoother, and more scalable.

A few details about the smart cockpit!

We understood that the Xmart OS 3.0 smart cockpit is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8155P chip. The chipset pairs with 12GB of RAM for smooth working. It also has a built-in storage space of 128GB. In terms of assisted driving hardware, Xpeng Motors P5 is equipped with 2 lidars. 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 13 high-sensitivity cameras, and 1 set of sub-meter high-precision positioning unit (GNSS navigation system + IMU {Inertial measurement unit}).

Further, in terms of assisted driving configuration, the two high-end models, i.e., the 550P and 600P, are equipped with two lidars. The XPILOT 3.5 driving assistance system can be added to the vehicle as an optional feature. In future, it will be able to realize the urban NGP function. And the two mid-range models, i.e., the 460E and 550E, comes with the lower XPILOT 3.0 Driving assistance system. However, the base 460G and 550G models can not be equipped with any of the above said XPILOT modes. It can only be fitted with XPILOT 2.5 driving assistance system.

As said in the introduction, the battery life varies upon the variant which you choose. That said, it comes with three battery pack options. The Xpeng P5 comes with a battery capacity of 55.9kWh, which is a lithium iron phosphate battery. It has an NEDC range of 460KM. While the second variant gets a battery capacity of 66.2kWh with an NEDC cruising range of 550KM, and it uses a lithium battery. At the same time, the top models has a battery pack with a size of 71.4kWh. It is a ternary lithium battery. It has an NEDC range of 600KM.
