On February 19, BYD officially launched the first SUV BYD YUAN PLUS of the e-platform 3.0. The new car offers a total of 5 models in China. The official guide price is 131,800 yuan to 159,800 yuan (~US$20,842 – US$25,270). There are two pure electric range versions: 430KM and 510KM. BYD YUAN PLUS is a pure electric model. Yuan PLUS is based on BYD e-platform 3.0. According to the official statement, Yuan PLUS is equipped with an eight-in-one electric powertrain. The overall system efficiency is as high as 89%, and the volume is reduced by 20% under the same power, the weight is reduced by 15%.
BYD’s vehicle naming is a bit like the naming of many current mobile phone brands. Among the BYD Dynasty series models, BYD Yuan series include BYD Yuan, Yuan EV, Yuan EV-DM (Dual-Module), Yuan Pro, and now comes the Yuan PLUS, BYD has been successively no longer sell fuel models. BYD Yuan series models are positioned as small SUVs which is smaller than BYD SONG series models. Among the BYD Yuan series models, BYD Yuan is the fuel version and has been discontinued. Yuan EV, Yuan EV-DM, and Yuan Pro share the same size. Yuan Pro is an upgradedmodel of Yuan EV, but it is worth noting that the size of the current listed Yuan PLUS is one size larger than other models in the Yuan series. The Yuan PLUS is a compact SUV.
In terms of appearance, BYD YUAN PLUS is featured with the latest Dragon Face 3.0 design language with simple and smooth lines, it is much like the BYD HAN EV, At the same time, the Chinese “元（Yuan）” is embossed on the chrome trim that runs through the front face, which is very delicate. In terms of body size, the new car has a length, width and height of 4455/1875/1615mm and a wheelbase of 2720mm.
According to the official statement, the interior design of Yuan PLUS is based on the concept of “rhythmic space”, and is personally designed by Michele JAUCH-Paganetti, chief interior design director of BYD. Specifically, the center console of the new car is featured with a two-color layout. The center console with a muscular streamline design is floating in the center with a dragon’s beard. The two sides are equipped with dumbbell-shaped air-conditioning outlets, making the interior look very stretched. The central armrest area below is very flat, and it looks like a treadmill from the side. The new thrust-type electronic gear lever and the air-conditioning outlet design are very distinctive.
The flagship model of China specs will also be equipped with a 15.6-inch central control screen, DiLink 4.0 (4G) intelligent network connection system, support adaptive rotation, and play with a large number of APPs. The car will also have Dirac audio, multi-color rhythmic interactive atmosphere lights, intelligent voice system, touch LED reading lights, VTOL mobile power station, cloud services and other configurations. It is worth mentioning that all models are equipped with karaoke microphones.
In terms of assisted driving, Yuan PLUS is equipped with DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, including ACC adaptive cruise, automatic parking, BSD blind spot monitoring, TSR traffic sign recognition, AEB automatic emergency braking, LKA lane keeping, LDW lane departure warning, FCW forward direction collision warning system and other functions provide safety and convenience for driving.
In terms of power, the new car will be equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 204 horsepower and a peak torque of over 330N m. The battery will be equipped with a lithium iron phosphate blade battery. Depending on the configuration of the model, the cruising range under NEDC conditions is available in two options: 430km and 510km.
Yuan PLUS is BYD’s first global passenger car “strategically going overseas”. BYD officials said that Yuan PLUS will be available in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East and Africa in the future. At the same time, Yuan PLUS was also listed in the Australian market at the same time, named ATTO 3, and the BYD Australian Experience Center was officially opened.
