On May 20, BYD officially released the first official images of the Seal 08 in a striking new “Glacier Silver” custom exterior color. As the new flagship sedan under the brand’s Ocean Network, the Seal 08 is built on an advanced 800V high-voltage platform and is set to hit the market in the second quarter of this year.

The Seal 08 showcases a fresh design language for the Ocean series. The front fascia features distinctive wave-shaped daytime running lights paired with a closed-off grille, lending the vehicle a sophisticated and premium aesthetic. The rear design echoes the front with a full-width taillight assembly that incorporates matching wave-like elements on both ends.

Inside, the cabin adopts the “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” design philosophy. It features a redesigned three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a floating center touchscreen, and a full LCD instrument cluster, creating a high-tech interior environment. Measuring 5,150mm in length, 1,999mm in width, and 1,505mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030mm, the Seal 08 is positioned as a mid-to-large-size sedan.

In terms of performance, the Seal 08 will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) versions. The BEV model, built on the 800V architecture, utilizes BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and megawatt-level flash charging technology. The all-wheel-drive variant delivers a maximum power output of 510kW, achieving a 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.3 seconds, with a CLTC-rated range of 900km. The PHEV version features a 1.5T hybrid system with dual motors producing up to 400kW, paired with a 45.36kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, offering a CLTC pure electric range of over 400km and a combined range of 1,000km. The vehicle also boasts advanced chassis technology, including rear-wheel steering and the DiSus-A intelligent air suspension system.

Author’s Commentary: Much like the Sea Lion 08, the Seal 08 is one of two major new models launched by BYD’s Ocean series in 2026—the Seal 08 being the sedan and the Sea Lion 08 the SUV. Both models will offer hybrid and pure electric powertrains. The standout feature for both is the super-fast charging technology introduced by BYD earlier this year, which claims a full charge in just 9 minutes. With pure electric models expected to reach ranges exceeding 900km, this represents a new benchmark for battery range in the Chinese electric vehicle market.
