On September 5, CATL signed a pre-purchase agreement with the city of Debrecen, Hungary, marking the official launch of CATL’s Hungarian factory. Earlier, EVE also planned to build a power battery factory in Hungary.
Last month, CATL issued an announcement saying that it plans to invest in a factory in Hungary, and will build a 100GWh power battery system production line with a total investment of no more than 7.34 billion euros (about 50.822 billion yuan), covering an area of 221 hectares. Construction will start within this year. , the construction period is expected not to exceed 64 months.
CATL said that with the rapid development of the new energy industry in Europe, the power battery market is continuing to grow. The construction of a new energy battery industry base project in Hungary by CATL is the company’s global strategic layout to promote overseas business development and meet overseas market demand.
After the project is completed, it will be supplied to BMW, Volkswagen and Stellantis Group, while Mercedes-Benz will cooperate with CATL in the construction of the project. If the Hungarian factory is successfully completed, it will become the second overseas production base of CATL. At present, CATL has only one factory in Germany. It started construction in October 2019 with a planned production capacity of 14GWh. At present, the factory has obtained a production license for 8GWh cells, the first batch of cells will be offline before the end of 2022.
