Recently, some media reported that after Changan Automobile and Geely Holding reached cooperation with NIO Automobile on battery swapping business, the next potential partner for NIO’s battery swapping business may be JAC. NIO has not yet responded to this.

On November 29th, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. (“Geely Holding”) and NIO Holding Co., Ltd. (“NIO”) signed a strategic cooperation agreement for battery swapping in Hangzhou. The two sides will engage in comprehensive cooperation in multiple fields such as battery swapping standards, battery swapping technology, battery swapping service network construction and operation, battery swapping model research and customization, battery asset management and operation, in addition to the TOC field, NIO will also enter the field of operating vehicles in the future.

Both parties will effectively cooperate with existing and new sites through the “joint investment, joint construction, sharing, and joint operation” model, and build a larger scale and unified power exchange network. Both sides will work together to create two major battery swapping standard systems in China, namely “private cars” and “commercial cars”, to provide more convenient, comprehensive, and secure services for users with different needs. The iconic significance of the cooperation between Geely Holdings and NIO Power is that the NIO Power battery swapping system is about to move from to simultaneously serving both ends of B and C, and also serving NIO and other brands. NIO Power’s profitability is expected, and it may even begin to reciprocate NIO.

From the user end perspective, consumers can save on purchasing and usage costs, and improve energy replenishment efficiency. From the perspective of vehicle manufacturers, they can launch various sales plans based on battery swapping to promote sales, facilitate battery monitoring, and reduce recall issues caused by battery failures; The battery, controlled and managed by professionals, can extend its lifespan by 30% -60% compared to individual consumer management; Moreover, once there is a problem with the battery, it can be detected at the battery swapping station, which can significantly reduce battery failures. From the perspective of battery companies, it is convenient for the hierarchical utilization and recycling of batteries.

According to the existing data on supplementary energy infrastructure, as of November 28th, NIO has accumulated a total of 2184 replacement power stations globally; There are a total of 3457 charging stations (including overcharging and mesh charging); A total of 20300 charging stations (including overcharging and mesh charging); A total of 1460000+third-party charging stations have been connected. At the same time, NIO has established a high-speed battery swapping network in the “7 vertical, 4 horizontal, and 10 major city clusters” in China, and will open up the high-speed battery swapping network in the “9 vertical, 9 horizontal, and 19 major city clusters” by 2025. The third-generation power station and NIO 500kW ultra fast charging pile have both been put into operation. As of November 28th, NIO has provided users with over 32.88 million battery swapping services.
