On January 1, 2021, Xpeng Motors announced that it has reached a cooperation agreement with Livox. It is understood that Livox is an independent company incubated by DJI Innovations. It is committed to providing high-performance, low-cost lidar sensors, and is used in many industries such as autonomous driving, smart cities, and mobile robots. Xpeng Motors will use the customized version of Xpeng’s car-grade lidar jointly produced by the two parties in the new mass-produced models launched in 2021. Livox will also become Xpeng’s first partner in the field of lidar.

It is reported that in this cooperation, Livox Technology has carried out a series of customized development for Xpeng Motors based on the Horiz car-level lidar platform. Among them, multiple core indicators such as range, FOV, and point cloud density will be reflected in the final vehicle-level mass-produced models. In addition, the customized development of Xpeng Motors this time also includes super frame rate lidar technology, which also has the ability to achieve a horizontal FOV of 120° in terms of field of view.

Xpeng P7 has been equipped with an autopilot architecture, and combined with its autopilot hardware foundation, the EV will be able to realize the NGP high-speed autonomous navigation driving function of XPILOT3.0. The addition of lidar can effectively improve the high-precision recognition performance of the vehicle, greatly improve its perception ability, and can also strengthen the ability to monitor pedestrians, static obstacles, small objects and other obstacles.

In addition, Xpeng Motors officially stated that in the future, under the multi-function fusion of vision + millimeter wave radar + ultrasonic sensor + car-level lidar, it will effectively improve the perception performance of the vehicle. Among them, in the aspect of high-speed automatic navigation driving (NGP), its high-speed scene coverage and lane change efficiency will be higher, and the manual takeover rate will be less. In terms of automatic brake assist (AEB), vehicles will reduce the risk of collisions with pedestrians or other traffic participants.
