NIO (NYSE: NIO) announced its first EV from its third brand, Firefly, dedicated to small pure electric vehicles. The first model under the Firefly brand, also named Firefly. This all-electric vehicle is available in two trim levels, with a price range of RMB 119,800 to RMB 125,800.

In terms of exterior design, the new vehicle adopts a biomimicry approach. The front features a distinctive trio headlight design on each side, composed of three circular light rings. These individual light rings can be controlled and illuminated independently, allowing for a variety of dynamic light displays. A central, capsule-shaped light strip runs across the front, enhancing its unique visual identity. The Firefly also boasts a 92-liter front trunk with layered storage and a drainage function.


The side profile showcases a compact and dynamic silhouette with a two-tone body. The A and B pillars are finished in black, while the C-pillar seamlessly connects to the roof, lending a personalized touch. At the rear, the vehicle is equipped with a roof spoiler and a rear window wiper. The taillight design echoes the front with a three-circle motif, creating a cohesive aesthetic. Dimensionally, the Firefly measures 4003mm in length, 1781mm in width, and 1557mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2615mm.

Inside, the Firefly features a dual-spoke, flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel with integrated control buttons. A 13.2-inch floating central touchscreen takes center stage, offering eight theme colors that complement the interior. Additional features include a 6-inch full LCD instrument panel, an electronic column shifter, and a bar-type design for the air vents, resulting in a clean and tech-forward ambiance. Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with 256-color ambient lighting, a 14-speaker 7.1 Dolby Atmos sound system, and an exclusive Forest Morning wood-toned fragrance.

Regarding interior space, the Firefly adopts a barrier-free, walk-through design between the driver and front passenger seats, allowing for easy entry and exit from either front door, which enhances convenience in tight spaces. The vehicle offers 27 storage compartments. The sub-console integrates an armrest, cupholders, a storage box, and a drawer. Magnetic attachment points in the front and rear rows support expandable storage solutions such as organizers and cupholders. Notably, there is a hidden storage space of over 29 liters beneath the right rear seat.

For powertrain, the Firefly will be equipped with a single rear motor with a maximum power output of 105 kW. It achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.2 seconds and has a top speed of 150 km/h. The vehicle features a 42.1 kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC pure electric range of 420 kilometers. In terms of energy replenishment, the Firefly will be compatible with NIO’s battery swapping network in the future. It also features an adaptive energy recovery system that can adjust the intensity of energy recovery steplessly while maintaining a safe following distance, resulting in smoother following. Additionally, the Firefly is equipped with Comfort Stop Technology (CST), which evenly controls braking force for smoother stops.
