The mass production project of the new SUV EC6 electric coupe was officially launched at the JAC plant recently. This is the third model to be mass-produced at the Hefei JAC manufacturing base. The NIO EC6 was announced last year at the NIO Day 2019 held in Shenzhen. The car was scheduled for listing this July and delivery in September.
From details gathered from sources, the wind resistance co-efficient of the new car was reported to be as low as 0.27cd. Appearance-wise, a 2.1 sq m panoramic glass skylight serves as a highlight. The skylight uses a double-layer thermal insulation glass with an impressive 15% energy transmission rate and 99.5% UV rays protection.
The EC6 is positioned as a smart electric coupe SUV with a cruising range of 615km. It will come in two versions: sports and performance with both offering 70kWh, 84kWh, and 100kWh capacity battery packs. The performance version will come with a front 160kW permanent magnet motor and 240kW induction motor that outputs a combined power of 544 hp, which will enable it to accelerate from 0-100km in only 4.7 seconds. Models that will carry 100kWh battery packs will have a range of up to 615km under comprehensive conditions.
The NIO EC6 has to contend with its Tesla counterpart, the Model Y which has started pre-sale efforts. Tesla has started localization of the domestic Model Y components and unit prices are expected to drop to less than 400,000 yuan in the future.
