NIO Day 2022: All-New EC7 & New-gen NIO ES8 + 3rd-Gen Power Station

On Christmas Eve, NIO held its own 2022 NIO Day as scheduled. Li Bin brought two new EVs to consumers: the all-new ES8 and its second Coupe SUV EC7. He also brought the third-generation power station and 500kW ultra-fast charging pile.

New-gen NIO ES8

The price range of the all-new NIO ES8 is 528,000-638,000 yuan, and it will be officially delivered in June 2023.

The new EV is developed based on the NT2.0 platform and will be equipped with lidar. At the same time, the body size will be larger than the current ES8. The interior will only provide a 6-seat layout and will be delivered in June 2023.

The appearance of the new NIO ES8 adopts the second-gen design language. All cameras use an exposed design, and the roof position is also equipped with a lookout-type lidar.

The length, width and height are 5099/1989/1750mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 3070mm. Compared with the old ES8, the length has increased by 77mm, and the wheelbase has increased by 60mm in one go.

The new NIO ES8 interior has a floating central control screen and a full LCD instrument, which can natively support AR/VR video output, and is also equipped with N-BOX entertainment console as standard.

Enhanced version 7.1.4 immersive sound system with a power of up to 2230 watts, a total of 23 top-quality speakers, including high-power bass and 4 3D speakers.

The new NIO ES8 features a 6-seater layout of 2+2+2, and the third row of seats adopts a sofa style, and supports seat heating and electric adjustment. In order to improve the space utilization rate in the car, the rear of the central armrest in the front row adopts a floating design, and the design of the armrest box in the co-pilot position is also canceled.

In terms of power, it will be equipped with a front and rear dual-motor four-wheel drive system with a combined power of 480 kW and a peak torque of 850 Nm. The official announcement is that the acceleration time from 0-100 km/h is 4.1 seconds.

In terms of battery life, the new car will provide power batteries with capacities of 75 kWh, 100 kWh and 150 kWh respectively, and the corresponding CLTC cruising ranges are 465 kilometers, 605 kilometers and 900 kilometers respectively.

All-New NIO EC7

NIO EC7 is the 2nd coupe SUV model from this company by following its first one EC6. And it is also the first Coupe SUV based on the NT2 platform. The new car will be delivered in May 2023.

It also adopts NIO’s second-gen design language, and is also equipped with an observation deck lidar and camera based on the concept of “Design for AD”

The price range of NIO EC7 is 488,000-578,000 yuan. If the BaaS battery rental plan is adopted, the price will be 418,000-450,000 yuan, and the monthly battery fee will be 980 yuan/1680 yuan per month.

The length, width and height are 4968/1974/1714 mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2960 mm. The vehicle drag coefficient is only 0.23.

The rear of the car is equipped with an active lifting rear spoiler, and it is also equipped with a hidden high-mounted brake light with a length of 400 mm. It adopts a seven-link and mirror-image wing design, and has two modes: manual and automatic. It is divided into two gears: drag reduction and extreme speed. The drag reduction gear can reduce aerodynamic resistance by 4%, and the extreme speed gear can increase the maximum downforce by 650N.

NIO EC7 adopts a 5-seat layout, the front driver’s seat provides 16-way electric adjustment, the passenger seat supports 18-way electric adjustment, the rear left seat supports 10-way electric adjustment, and the rear right seat supports 8-way electric adjustment. One-piece sports seats are used.

In terms of power, it is equipped with a front and rear dual-motor four-wheel drive system, with a combined output power of 480 kW and a combined torque of 850 Nm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 3.8 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating SUV from NIO. The braking distance from 100-0 kilometers is only 33.9 meters. Equipped with Brembo six-piston calipers and 380 mm large-size perforated and ventilated brake discs, the heat-fading resistance performance has been comprehensively improved.

In terms of battery life, it also provides three battery packs of 75 kWh, 100 kWh and 150 kWh, and the cruising ranges corresponding to CLTC working conditions are 490 kilometers, 635 kilometers and 940 kilometers.

NIO 3rd-gen power station

  • The number of battery pack reserves has been increased to 21, the battery replacement time has been shortened by 20%, and the number of daily services can reach 408, which is 30% higher than that of the second-generation station. It will be deployed in March 2023
  • Equipped with two lidars and two NVIDIA Orin X chips, the computing power of a single station reaches 508TOPS
  • It still cannot support multi-vehicle battery replacement at the same time, and users still need to wait in line

NIO 500kW fast charging pile

  • The maximum charging power can reach 500kW, and the maximum charging current is 660A
  • Using the liquid-cooled charging cable developed by NIO, the weight is also greatly reduced, enabling single-hand operation, and the user experience is more convenient.

So far, in the SUV market, NIO has five models: ES8, ES7, EC7, ES6, and EC6, and sedans include ET7 and ET5. NIO’s product series presents a family-oriented aspect. It is very symbolic that NIO has completed the replacement of its first EV, the new-gen ES8, which is also the flagship model of NIO, and has once again raised the price.
