Update on May 13th, IM L6 was officially launched. The new car has launched 5 models with prices ranging from 219,900 to 345,900 yuan(~US$30258 – US$47,792). The IM L6 is the fourth model under the IM brand, positioned as a pure electric mid size sedan. The new car is equipped with lithium iron phosphate or ternary lithium batteries, with multiple range options of 650/710/780/850km. The solid-state battery version of CLTC has a pure electric range of over 1000 kilometers and is expected to be delivered starting in October.
April 18, Li Auto officially launched the L6, with two models available priced from RMB 249,800 to RMB 279,800 (~US$34,500 – 38,600). The new car is a five-seat mid-large extended-range SUV, positioned below the Li Auto L7. The L6 is a luxury five-seat SUV, while the L7 is a flagship five-seat SUV. The Li Auto L6 is based on the second-generation extended-range platform developed by Li Auto, which took three years to develop and cost over RMB 2 billion. Li Auto officials told that Li Auto will not launch lower-configured entry-level models for the L6 in the future, as it wants to ensure that Li Auto models are richly configured.
In terms of appearance, the Li Auto L6 continues the family-style design, although it looks very similar to the L7, there are still many differences in the details. First, the L6 uses an integrated floating design for the daytime running lights, which is the first Li Auto model to use an integrated design. The daytime running lights can be seen extending to the rear of the yellow turn signals on both sides. At the same time, the L6 has updated the dual-lens headlight assembly at the bottom, separating the high beams and low beams, and combining the driving auxiliary lights and turn signals. In addition, compared to the L7, the L6 has reduced the size of the lower grille of the front bumper to lower the drag coefficient and removed the decorative strips. The Li Auto L6 has a drag coefficient of 0.269, which is lower than the 0.298 of the AITO Wenjie M7.
On the side of the body, the Li Auto L6 has shortened the front and rear overhangs, moved the D-pillar forward, and enhanced the fastback of the roof, making the new car more sporty. In terms of body size, the Li Auto L6 has a length, width and height of 4925/1960/1735mm and a wheelbase of 2920mm. Compared to the Li Auto L7, the car length is shortened by 125mm, the wheelbase is reduced by 85mm, the width is 35mm less, and the height is 15mm lower. The Li Auto L6 is standard with 20-inch low-drag wheels.
The rear of the vehicle still adopts a bar-type taillight, with a three-dimensional design. The difference from the L7 is that the L6’s license plate is still on the bumper, and the overall size of the tailgate is not small. The position of the reflective strips on both sides of the bumper has also been adjusted. This time, the Li Auto L6 has also added a new color scheme of Elephant Grey.
In terms of interior, it is exactly the same as the Li Auto L7, using a four-screen layout, including a touch screen on the steering wheel, a high-definition HUD, a central control screen and a co-pilot screen. The central control screen and co-pilot screen are 15.7-inch 3K screens. The core is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip and provides 5G network. The audio system is equipped with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The Max version is equipped with the same Platinum audio as the Li Auto MEGA and the same PSS speakers as the Mercedes-Benz Berlin Philharmonic, with a total of 19 speakers. The new car also has the voice assistant Ideal Mate with the ability of the large model Mind GPT, and can even be a teacher who accompanies children to grow up. The new car’s steering wheel is standard with heating function and is made of Nappa leather.
Due to the use of electronic gear lever, the central part of the vehicle is still equipped with two 50W wireless charging pads, cup holders and a central storage compartment. However, due to the fact that the Li Auto L6 is equipped with a refrigerator, the central storage space is not large, but there is also an open storage compartment under the center console. The refrigerator drawer of the Li Auto L6 can be pulled out from the center of the rear row, reaching 8.8L, and can store 10 cans of beer. It supports 0-7°C refrigeration and 35-50°C. It also uses a compressor refrigerator with better refrigeration effect.
In terms of seats, the thickness and length of the front and rear seat cushions of the L6 are exactly the same as those of the L7, equipped with Nappa leather material as standard. There are five seats in the car that provide heating function and four seats that provide ventilation function. The shoulders are equipped with ventilation holes, and heating pads are added to the side wings of the seats. The front seats also support ten point massage function. The legroom in the back row of L6 will be slightly smaller than that of L7, but a 1.83 meter male sitting in the back row will still have 1 fist of legroom. The trunk has a depth of 1057mm, a volume of 491L, and can accommodate three 28 inch, one 22 inch, and one 20 inch suitcases; After all the backrests of the second row seats are folded down, the capacity can be expanded by 1923L.
In terms of power, the Ideal L6 series comes standard with dual motor four-wheel drive, with a maximum power of 300 kW and a maximum torque of 529 N · m, accelerating from 0-100km/h for 5.4 seconds. The lowest fuel consumption under WLTC conditions is 6.9L/100km (the power decreases compared to L7, but the acceleration does not slow down, and the fuel consumption is also lower). The lithium iron phosphate battery has a capacity of 36.8 kWh, and the battery providers are still from CATL and Sunwoda. The pure electric range under CLTC conditions is 212km, and the comprehensive range under CLTC conditions is 1390km. It takes 20 minutes for SOC to charge from 20% to 80%, and the new car also supports external discharge of 3.5kW. The new car comes standard with front double wishbone and rear five link independent suspension, and CDC continuous variable damping shock absorbers (no longer equipped with L7 air suspension), achieving millisecond level damping adjustment and providing a premium driving experience under all road conditions.
Unlike the L7, the L6 does not use ternary lithium batteries, but instead uses lithium iron phosphate batteries. Ideal Automobile stated that the L6 is equipped with a new generation of lithium iron phosphate batteries, avoiding the weaknesses of previous lithium iron phosphate batteries, such as poor low-temperature power performance and fast low-temperature power loss. The ideal L6 model’s power performance only decays by 0.6 seconds in a minus 10 degree environment; The CLTC driving range is 6% -7% ahead of other vehicles in the same class, and the new car has also added heat pump air conditioning and a heat management system based on heat pumps.
In terms of intelligent driving, the Pro model comes standard with the intelligent driving AD Pro, which has 10 cameras and 1 millimeter wave radar. It adopts the Horizon Journey 5 intelligent driving chip and has a computing power of 128TOPS. It can achieve high-speed NOA (lane changing overtaking/entering and exiting ramps), automatic parking, and parking when leaving the vehicle; The Max model comes standard with an intelligent driving AD Max, equipped with 11 cameras, 1 laser radar, and 1 millimeter wave radar. It also comes standard with dual NVIDIA Orin-X chips and 508TOPS computing power. It can achieve high-speed NOA, high-precision map free urban NOA (intersection traffic, construction avoidance, urban congestion scenes), automatic parking, departure and parking, and valet parking (route learning, cross multi-layer channel form). AEB automatic emergency braking can achieve a maximum braking speed of 120km/h and a maximum braking speed of 80km/h at night.
