Germany StreetScooter Enters China: to Establish Joint Venture with Chery Group

Recently, under the joint witness of the leaders of China and Germany, Chery Holding Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Chery Group”) signed a memorandum of cooperation with StreetScooter GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post AG. The two parties plan to invest a total of 500 million euros to establish a joint venture company in China, establish research and development center, produce and sell electric light commercial vehicles, and enter the logistics industry chain. This memorandum of cooperation is one of the economic and trade cooperation documents signed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel during her visit to China.

According to the memorandum, the joint venture will develop and produce electric light commercial vehicles suitable for the global market and will be used for the last “one mile” transportation service of postal parcels. The joint venture company has an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, and the product is scheduled to be launched in mass production in 2021. Chery Group and StreetScooter will also establish an electric vehicle R&D center in China to develop electric-modified vehicle platforms and related technologies, and provide L4-class automatic driving and smart logistics solutions.

According to the development plan of the joint venture parties, the joint venture company will develop, produce and sell 2/4-wheel electric vehicles in the future, together with the existing electric light commercial vehicles, to provide more intelligent logistics, transportation and transportation to meet social needs. At the same time, it will create a zero-emission logistics industry chain and a shared economic ecosystem integrating circular economy, mobile travel and “logistics services + energy services”.
