On the evening of July 12, Chery officially announced that its all-new compact SUV, Omoda 5, was officially launched. The new car launched this time has a total of two sets of power and seven trim level. The price guideline ranges from RMB 92,900 to RMB 126,900 in the Chinese market.

Omoda 5 is the first compact SUV model after the evolution of Chery’s 4.0 products. The brand-new design language is obviously different from Chery’s family-style design. The younger and more escaped design makes its appearance look quite avant-garde. And dynamic, in line with the current taste of young consumers who are pursuing individuality and publicity.

Its front face is undoubtedly the most eye-catching part of the whole set of appearance. The borderless grille has an oversized size, which looks both avant-garde and full of tension. After matching the popular split headlight group, the front face not only has a very special look and feel, but also has a full visual impact.

The side profile of the body is compact and well-proportioned, the lines are quite elegant, and the slightly forward swooping posture looks sporty. In terms of body size, its length, width and height are 4400×1830×1585mm, and the wheelbase is 2630mm. In the compact SUV class, these numbers are not impressive.

The rear adopts a fast-back shape, the rear of the car looks very dynamic by matching the C-pillar wih a special design technique and the rear windshield with a large slope. In addition, a uniquely designed and notably large roof spoiler further enhances the sporty look at the rear. As for the taillight group, it adopts the popular bar-type design and is equipped with the dynamic effect of flowing water.

Its interior design is dominated by a sense of fashion and technology. The large-size dual-screen is not only one of the main sources of interior technology, but also helps to reduce the number of physical buttons used, so that the center console looks quite simple and beautiful.

In terms of tech configuration, measured by its price, it can be described as rich. Even the low trim model has a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel and a large central control screen. At the same time, the comfort, convenience and safety configuration are also relatively complete. Not to mention the high-end models, the two screens of the dual-screen are upgraded to 12.3 inches, and there are also feature-rich driver assistance systems.

In terms of power, it will provide two power combinations, which are still the 1.5T and 1.6T four-cylinder engines. Among them, the maximum power of the 1.5T engine is 156 horsepower, which is matched with a CVT gearbox that can simulate a 9-speed; the maximum power of the 1.6T engine is 197 horsepower, and the transmission is matched with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. As for the chassis, it uses a front McPherson and a rear multi-link suspension structure.

Omoda’s road test spy photos were first exposed in July 2021. In November of the same year, the official spy photos of the car were officially released and named “X-C”. At that time, this coupe SUV-style new car very fast attracted everyone’s attention. At the subsequent Guangzhou Auto Show, it was officially unveiled under the official name of “OMODA 5”, which left a deep impression because of the design language that was completely different from that of Chery’s models at that time. As for the Chinese name “欧萌达”, it was later voted by netizens and determined in April this year. In early June, Chery announced its pre-sale price range of 92,900-128,900 yuan. On July 12, about a month apart, it was finally officially launched in China.
