On September 23rd, BYD officially launched the Seal 05 DM-i, offering 4 variants with a price range of 112,800 to 142,800 yuan. As a sibling models, the Seal 05 DM-i and Song Pro DM-i are both compact SUVs, to be sold through the Ocean and Dynasty networks respectively. Equipped with a 1.5L plug-in hybrid powertrain and BYD’s latest DM-5.0 plug-in hybrid technology, the new model prioritizes fuel efficiency.
Maintaining the “Ocean Aesthetics” design language, the Seal 05 DM-i boasts a bold and muscular exterior. The wide front grille, adorned with intricate chrome detailing, commands attention. The sleek and angular Sea Breeze headlights, finished in a dark hue, lend a sophisticated and mysterious look. Aerodynamic air ducts on the sides of the front fascia contribute to the vehicle’s dynamic appearance.
The side profile features a floating roof design, accentuated by a metallic trim around the windows, adding a touch of sophistication. The new five-spoke wheels, with a striking contrast of black and silver, contribute to a dynamic appearance. The rear end is highlighted by a slender, bar-type tail lamp. Dimension-wise, the vehicle measures 4710mm in length, 1880mm in width, and 1720mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2712mm.
The interior features a fully digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch rotatable central touchscreen, powered by BYD’s DiLink intelligent network system. The flat-bottom four-spoke steering wheel and a circular gear selector with a crystal gear knob add a touch of sophistication. Common physical buttons, including the start button, EV/hybrid mode switch, electronic parking brake, volume control, and air conditioning controls, are conveniently located around the gear selector. A 50W wireless charging pad is positioned in front of the gear selector, and the vehicle also comes equipped with USB Type A, 60W Type C charging ports, NFC mobile key, and BYD’s intelligent cloud services.
Powertrain-wise, the vehicle is equipped with BYD’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid system, featuring a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine producing 74 kW, an EHS electric hybrid system, and a dedicated blade battery with a motor outputting 120 kW. The 18.3 kWh battery offers a pure electric range of 115 km under CLTC conditions and a fuel consumption of 3.79 L/100 km in NEDC hybrid mode. Additionally, the vehicle supports 3.3 kW external power output.
