At the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show, BYD officially unveiled the Sea Lion 08, a new mid-to-large SUV positioned as the flagship model within the brand’s Ocean series. The vehicle is scheduled for market launch in the second half of the year and will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) configurations.

The Sea Lion 08 draws inspiration from the Ocean S concept, featuring a minimalist, futuristic aesthetic. The front fascia is highlighted by signature wave-style daytime running lights and vertically stacked split headlights, while maintaining a functional grille for improved cooling efficiency.

Measuring 5,115 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm, the SUV offers a commanding presence. The side profile is characterized by smooth, flowing lines and semi-concealed door handles, leading to a rear end featuring a full-width taillight assembly that mirrors the front lighting signature.

Inside, the cabin adopts a wraparound design consistent with the Ocean series. It features a large floating center touchscreen—likely 15.6 inches—integrated seamlessly with the digital instrument cluster. The interior is designed for luxury and comfort, particularly in the six-seat configuration, which includes second-row zero-gravity seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, alongside a 21.4-inch roof-mounted display, a 25-speaker Devialet audio system, a refrigerator, and integrated tray tables. A five-seat version will also be available.

Technologically, the Sea Lion 08 is packed with BYD’s latest innovations, including the second-generation Blade Battery, Cell-to-Body (CTB) integration, and advanced fast-charging capabilities. It also features the DiPilot 5.0 intelligent driving assistance system, rear-wheel steering, the Yun辇-A intelligent body control system, and dual-chamber air suspension with road-preview functionality.

The PHEV variant utilizes a 1.5T engine paired with either single or dual-motor setups. The single-motor version produces 200 kW, while the dual-motor variant delivers 200 kW at both the front and rear axles. It offers a CLTC-rated pure electric range of up to 400 km.

The BEV version offers three powertrain configurations, with single-motor outputs of 320 kW or 370 kW, and a dual-motor setup featuring 215 kW front and 370 kW rear motors. Equipped with either 92.093 kWh or 115.072 kWh battery packs, the BEV model achieves a maximum CLTC range of up to 900 km.
