According to media reports, Volkswagen is in discussions with Huawei Auto BU to acquire the project team of the latter’s autonomous driving department, and plans to announce further information at the end of March. A person familiar with the matter told the media that the two sides are indeed negotiating. The general form of cooperation is that the two parties set up a joint venture, which is funded and controlled by Volkswagen, and Huawei provides technology to become Volkswagen’s tier1 (first-tier supplier). At present, Volkswagen Group declined to comment on this, and Huawei has not responded for the time being.
It is worth mentioning that in July 2021, Huawei and Volkswagen jointly released the “full-stack integrated simulation platform” solution, which is the first large-scale application of similar solutions in China’s automotive industry.
