The battery life of electric vehicles has always been a major concern for users. According to the Shanghai Securities Journal, the relevant person in charge of CATL recently revealed that in terms of battery life, the company has developed an advanced zero attenuation battery that can achieve zero attenuation within 1500 cycles. This will be a landmark long-life battery.


At the level of laws and regulations, when the capacity of the power battery decays below 80%, the power battery needs to be compulsorily recycled and continued to be used in stages. At the same time, the compulsory power battery’s cycle life must reach more than 1,000 times.

CATL developed a new battery with zero attenuation in 1500 cycles

At present, there are two main types of power batteries on the market: one is a ternary lithium battery represented by Tesla, which has a higher energy density, smaller size, and lightweight, but decays faster, about 800-1200 full charges after cycling, it will decay by 20%; the other is a lithium iron phosphate battery represented by BYD, this battery has the opposite performance to a ternary lithium battery, its energy density is relatively small, its volume and weight are relatively large, but it has with good heat dissipation and safer features, the battery decays slowly, and it only decays 20% after about 2,000 times.

At the same time, CATL also revealed that the company’s next-generation battery research and development direction includes “cobalt-free battery” technology, and strives to reduce the cost of lithium batteries to $ 100 / kWh by 2025, and the system energy density can reach 250Wh / kg.

Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, predicts that by 2025, the electrification rate of the Chinese automotive market will exceed 25%, and by 2035, this rate will exceed 70%. By 2025, basic pure electric vehicles will be more economical than fuel vehicles, and the market will be better driven. Before 2040, except for some special application areas, the electrification will be basically realized.
