On March 26, at the 2022 ChinaEV100 Meeting, Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL, said that CATL has launched the third-generation CTP technology through continuous technological iteration, which is called Kirin battery internally.
Officials said that the weight, energy density and volumetric energy density of Kirin battery systems continue to lead the industry’s highest level. Under the same chemical system and the same battery pack size, the power of the Kirin battery pack can be increased by 13% compared to the 4680 system.
In addition, CATL also announced the latest heat-free diffusion technology. Officials said that in September 2020, CATL took the lead in realizing heat-free diffusion on 811 products. After that, some car companies and battery companies have launched their own heat-free technology. The current non-thermal diffusion technology has become the mainstream of the industry. After CATL has mass-produced the heat-free diffusion technology of the 8-series products in 2020, the heat-free diffusion technology with a higher specific energy of 1,000km will also be mass-produced in 2023.
Wu Kai said in his speech that a year ago, Mr. Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, proposed for the first time in the industry that power batteries will enter the TWh era in the next five years. At the time, this judgment was radical and bold. But in 2021, global new energy vehicles develop faster than many people expected. Based on the predictions of authoritative institutions including South Korea’s SNE and Bloomberg, the TWh era will really come before 2025.
