The all-new Li Auto L8 has officially launched, marking a significant shift in the brand’s strategy. Now positioned as a five-seat flagship SUV, the new model brings substantial upgrades in dimensions, interior comfort, and core technology, aiming to set a new benchmark in its segment. The vehicle is available in two trim levels, with pricing starting at 369,800 RMB (~$50,900 USD) and 429,800 RMB (~$59,200 USD), with limited-time launch offers reducing the entry price to 359,800 RMB (~$49,600 USD) and 419,800 RMB (~$57,800 USD).

The exterior design of the new L8 aligns with the latest Li Auto family aesthetic, featuring a sleeker “Star Ring” light bar with intelligent tri-color display capabilities and a redesigned front bumper with active rectangular air intakes. The vehicle measures 5,135mm in length, 2,000mm in width, and 1,800mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,045mm. It offers a variety of exterior color options, including five solid colors and four two-tone custom editions.

Inside, the cabin is designed for maximum luxury, featuring four “zero-gravity” seats equipped with heating, ventilation, and 12-point back/6-point cushion stone massage functions. The rear seating area is particularly impressive, offering a 55-degree recline angle, five-link adjustable cushions, and various modes including a “work space” and “cruise sofa.” Technology highlights include a 29-inch 6K panoramic screen, a head-up display (HUD), and a powerful 27-speaker sound system with nearly 1,000W of total output.

Powering the new L8 is a self-developed 1.5T range-extender paired with dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 420kW and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.8 seconds. All models come standard with a 72.7kWh 5C ternary lithium battery, providing a CLTC pure electric range of 430km and a comprehensive range of 1,670km. The chassis features a double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension, with the top-tier model benefiting from an 800V active suspension system and steer-by-wire technology for enhanced stability and comfort.
Editor’s Note: From the original Li ONE to the L-series, Li Auto has rapidly captured the market by focusing on high-utility family SUVs. However, in the absence of deep technological moats, it has become increasingly easy for competitors to catch up. In this next decade, Li Auto is moving beyond the family SUV niche to build “embodied intelligent vehicles.” By making a significant leap in intelligence, the company aims to establish unique technological barriers that are not easily replicated. Whether the new L8 and L9 can successfully drive this transformation remains to be seen.
