On April 3, BYD officially announced: “According to the company’s strategic development needs, the production of fuel vehicles will be stopped from March 2022.”
BYD’s official statement: According to the company’s strategic development needs, it will focus on EV pure electric and DM plug-in hybrid vehicles in the future.
At the same time, BYD also promises to continue to provide comprehensive service and after-sales guarantee for existing fuel vehicle customers, as well as the supply of spare parts throughout the life cycle.
Worldwide, BYD is the first traditional automaker to announce that it officially stops production of fuel vehicles and focus on new energy.
In the past March 2022, BYD passenger cars sold 104,338 units in March, which is the first time that the monthly sales of BYD passenger cars exceeded 100,000. And a year-on-year increase of 160.9%!
And the sales contribution of this is almost all EV pure electric and DM plug-in hybrid models. The 104,338 sales did not include gasoline vehicles.
Among them, BYD DM plug-in hybrid sales in March were 50,674 units, a year-on-year increase of 615.2%. The core technology here is the DM-i super hybrid, which is almost the same price as a fuel vehicle of the same level. On the other hand, BYD sold 53,664 EV (pure electric) models in March, a year-on-year increase of 229.2%. Among the technical advantages are blade batteries, e-platform 3.0, and more.
It may be the boom in sales of new energy vehicles that made BYD decide to stop the traditional fuel vehicles with poor sales performance.
In the past 2021, BYD sold 740,000 vehicles, of which new energy vehicles accounted for 600,000, a year-on-year increase of 220%, ranking first in China for 9 consecutive years.
