Xpeng Launches Local Production in Indonesia, Marking a New Phase in Global Strategy

Xpeng Motors has officially commenced local production in Indonesia, delivering the first locally assembled Xpeng X9 at the 2025 Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2025). This move signifies the start of Xpeng’s global localization strategy, with Indonesia becoming its first overseas market for domestic manufacturing.

At the exhibition, Xpeng showcased a range of products, including the Xpeng X9, Xpeng G6, its flying car prototype, and the AI-powered humanoid robot IRON. Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s most populous country and a rapidly growing EV market, presents significant opportunities due to its young demographic and strong demand for smart, eco-friendly vehicles.

Xpeng’s Indonesia operations encompass manufacturing, talent development, and product localization to better serve local consumer needs. The company is also expanding its sales and service network, aiming to cover 70% of core urban centers and 85% of high-density areas by year-end.

The Xpeng X9, the first model produced locally for export, features a seven-seat layout with power-folding third-row seats, catering to Indonesia’s family-oriented market.

Since initiating its globalization efforts in 2020, Xpeng has expanded to 46 countries and regions, topping sales charts for Chinese EV startups in 10 European markets and achieving cumulative global deliveries of over 800,000 units. The Indonesia milestone reflects Xpeng’s shift toward a “localized manufacturing + technology export + brand deepening” approach, enhancing its operational efficiency in overseas markets.
