Denza Z Debuts at Goodwood: A 1,604 HP Electric Supercar Starting at $185,000

Denza Z high-performance electric sports car

On July 9, the all-new Denza Z high-performance electric sports car made its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. Built upon BYD’s proprietary technology architecture, the Denza Z is available in three distinct versions: Hardtop, Convertible, and Track Edition. Pricing for the international market is set at £142,900 (approx. $185,000) for the Hardtop, £159,900 (approx. $207,000) for the Convertible, and £172,900 (approx. $223,000) for the Track Edition. The model emphasizes aerodynamic design, an advanced intelligent cockpit, a fully steer-by-wire chassis, and a tri-motor electric powertrain, positioning itself as a premium Chinese electric sports car designed to compete with established international luxury performance models. Pre-orders in China will begin on July 13, with a full market launch scheduled for the fourth quarter.

### Exterior Design
The Denza Z adopts the “Pure Emotion” design philosophy, characterized by fluid body lines and a comprehensive aerodynamic package. The vehicle features a low-slung, wide-body stance typical of high-performance sports cars. The front fascia is completely enclosed, complemented by sharp LED “water drop” headlights, while the hood incorporates integrated air ducts to optimize cooling and reduce drag.

The side profile features side skirt aero blades and air channels designed to manage airflow. Dimensions vary slightly by version: the Hardtop measures 4,780/1,990/1,350 mm, while the Track Edition extends to 4,870 mm in length. All models share a 2,780 mm wheelbase. The wide stance and low ground clearance, combined with a flat battery layout, create a classic sports car silhouette.

The rear is defined by a full-width horizontal taillight and a functional rear diffuser that enhances downforce at high speeds. The Hardtop features a carbon fiber roof and an active electric rear spoiler that adjusts based on vehicle speed. The convertible variant utilizes a fully automatic folding soft-top mechanism, while the Track Edition is equipped with a large fixed rear wing and widened aerodynamic bodywork. Customers can choose between 20-inch or 21-inch performance wheels and various brake caliper colors.

### Interior and Technology
The interior of the Denza Z strikes a balance between track-focused performance and daily usability. It features a floating central touchscreen and a track-themed full LCD instrument cluster. In “Track Mode,” the display provides real-time data including motor power, battery temperature, lateral G-forces, and torque. To enhance driver focus, the vehicle retains physical buttons for climate control, drive modes, and spoiler adjustments.

The cabin is fitted with integrated leather sports bucket seats that offer robust lateral support for high-speed cornering, while also including heating, ventilation, and massage functions for long-distance comfort. The two-door, four-seat layout provides enough space for short-distance passenger travel, offering more practicality than traditional two-seater sports cars. Premium materials such as carbon fiber trim, metal pedals, and suede headliners define the cabin atmosphere.

### Intelligent Driving and Safety
The Denza Z is equipped with the “DiPilot 5.0” high-level intelligent driving system, optimized for the unique dynamics of a low-slung, high-speed sports car. The system includes high-precision sensors for real-time road monitoring and supports features such as Highway NOA (Navigate on Autopilot), full-scene automatic parking, and remote-controlled reversing.

Safety features include an AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) system capable of operating between 0–130 km/h, which can identify pedestrians, non-motorized vehicles, and irregular obstacles. The vehicle utilizes a carbon fiber composite cage structure and high-performance multi-piston ceramic ventilated brakes.

### Powertrain and Performance
The Denza Z is powered by BYD’s “e-Platform” intelligent control system, featuring a tri-motor independent four-wheel-drive setup (one motor in the front, two in the rear). The system delivers a combined output of 1,180 kW (1,604 horsepower), enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 1.96 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h.

The vehicle is equipped with a 102 kWh flat-mounted LFP Blade Battery, offering a range of nearly 600 km under the WLTP cycle. It also supports 800V high-voltage fast charging.

### Editor’s Verdict
As the flagship high-performance electric model for the Denza brand, the Denza Z successfully integrates BYD’s core technologies in electric powertrains, intelligent chassis control, and autonomous driving. By combining aggressive sports car aesthetics with practical daily features, the Denza Z bridges the gap between track-ready performance and everyday usability, marking a significant milestone for Chinese-branded electric sports cars.
