The Dongfeng eπ008 was officially launched on June 14th with two variants priced at RMB 216,600 (~U$30,000). Positioned as a mid-to-large SUV, the vehicle is available in both extended-range hybrid and pure electric configurations. Key highlights of the new car include a 6-seat layout, features like a “refrigerator, TV, and large “sofa””, and a design reminiscent of new EV startups. Deliveries of the eπ008 are expected to begin within this month.
Exterior Design
Adopting a minimalist aesthetic similar to that of new EV startups, the Dongfeng eπ008 features a bar-type headlights front grille with a hidden intelligent starlight grille. When illuminated, the daytime running lights exhibit a unique three-point design. The overall front fascia presents a clean and uncluttered look, while the front bumper retains air intakes.
From the side, the vehicle prioritizes spaciousness, evident in the generous dimensions of both the front and rear doors. It adopts a design with short overhangs and a long wheelbase. Additionally, the eπ008 utilizes hidden door handles and multi-spoke wheels. In terms of body dimensions, the vehicle measures 5002/1972/1732mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3025mm. Moreover, the new car is equipped with 21-inch Michelin silent tires.
The rear of the vehicle also features bar-type taillights with a distinctive design that leaves a lasting impression. The overall rear end exudes a sense of fullness and solidity, while maintaining an overall air of elegance and simplicity. The new car has a drag coefficient of 0.268.
Interior Design
The interior continues with the minimalist theme, featuring extensive leather upholstery reminiscent of the Lixiang ONE. The center console boasts wood grain and chrome accents. The Dongfeng eπ008 provides a floating instrument cluster and a large floating central touchscreen, eliminating the need for physical buttons in the center console area. Other interior amenities include streaming rearview mirrors, double-layer soundproof glass, 50W wireless fast charging, and 64-color ambient lighting.
Seating and Space
Dongfeng eπ008 adopts a 2+2+2 6-seat layout. The second row offers power seats, independent armrests, small tables, and a car refrigerator that can be moved forward and backward. The rear seats also feature a foldable 15.6-inch screen for video playback or karaoke. Due to the presence of the screen, the vehicle adopts a segmented panoramic sunroof design. The third-row seats are not too thin either. When the backrests of the third-row seats are folded down, the trunk forms a flat storage space. The pure electric model also has a large front trunk.
Powertrain
The extended-range model will be equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged engine as the range extender, with a maximum power of 108kW and a peak torque of 210Nm. It will be equipped with a CATL lithium iron phosphate battery pack, and the drive motor will have a maximum power of 200kW and a peak torque of 340Nm. The CLTC pure electric range is 210km, the CLTC comprehensive range is 1300km, and the fuel consumption when the battery is depleted is 4.7L/100km. The fast charging time is 0.43 hours. The pure electric model has a single motor with a maximum power of 200kW and a peak torque of 340Nm. It adopts an East Horizon lithium iron phosphate battery pack, with a CLTC range of 636km and a fast charging time of 0.47 hours.
